Responsibilities:
Responsible for supporting the public relations objectives of the Saint Louis Zoo which includes raising awareness of the organization its mission and the conservation work through highly effective public relations planning and activation. Develop creative media pitches; conduct proactive media outreach; create spokesperson preparation materials; staff media onsite; respond to media inquiries; writeand edit engaging copy for Zoo communication platforms and channels to reach a range of audiences; identify and establish new relationships with members of the media content creators and other influencers. Can juggle multiple responsibilities and projects at the same time and can work under deadline pressure meeting Zoo and media needs. Can communicate complex ideas and issues in simple ways that are easy for the general public to understand. Assist with digital communication projects associated with the Zoos website and social media channels. Daily tracking and reporting of Zoo media placements as well as social media monitoring and reporting; identifying trends and potential communication activations for the Zoo. Manages the Public Relation teams content calendar and assists fellow Public Relations team members with other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
Bachelors in communication journalism marketing or related coursework required. A minimum of 1 to 3 years of professional public relations or communication experience working in a relevant industry. Strong grammar writing editing and proofreading skills. Experience working with media and can demonstrate proficiency in national media relations to drive earned placements. A solid understanding and interest in wildlife care conservation and environmental issues. Understands social media and digital communication including how to integrate tactics for campaigns. Previous experience working in an agency setting or inhouse at an environmental or conservation advocacy organization zoo aquarium sanctuary or other wildlife care specialty organization is a plus. Passionate and experienced at excelling in a fastpaced environment as both a team member and an independent contributor with autonomy. Ability to respond quickly and meet deadlines. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check.
