Job Description

Education: Bachelors Degree

Qualifications: Must have or be eligible for North Dakota teaching license or ability to be Alternatively Certified. Middle School or High School License preferred. Job related experience preferred. Candidates must be willing to complete the Career Advisor training provided by the North Dakota Department of CTE within their first year of employment.

Job Summary: The role of the Career Advisor is to deliver and support the Career Education program that educates students on making their career choices. The Career Advisor also provides support for the Career Education curriculum in collaboration with the K12 Counseling Program and classroom instructors. They will provide organizational leadership develop and implement programs and continually upgrade the career education curriculum. The Career Advisor will play an essential role within all career development activities and career education special events. The Career Advisor is a valued and contributing member of the Career Education department and K12 Counseling Program of the Grand Forks Public Schools.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Coordinates and delivers career education units to students in the Grand Forks Public Schools

  • Teaches and presents 6th 8thgrade career units to all assigned schools.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the middle school counselors on the scheduling delivering and evaluation of career units.
  • Provide support and assistance for the annual regionwide 8thgrade Career Event.
  • Identifies and oversees state grant opportunities for funding nontraditional career opportunities and educational equity.
  • Provides career education curriculum materials and support to Grand Forks Consortium school counselors as needed.

Staff and promote middle school career conversations.

  • Be available to students teachers and parents on a callin or walkin basis during regular school hours throughout the school year at the middle school level.
  • Develop and coordinate opportunities available to middle school students through class presentations student educational career planning conferences school newsletter articles and school announcements.

Career Education Curriculum Development

  • Reviews and manages the curriculum for the Career Education program
  • Reviews and manages the software and available resources for Career Education program
  • Provides staff inservice on changes to curriculum software and available resources
  • Coordinates the printing and distribution career education materials.
  • Willingness to attend professional development trainings and conferences related to Career Development and Career Advising for the purposes of enhancing the program including the annual Professional Development Conference (PDC).

Career Development Advisory Committee

  • Recruit new members to the SchooltoCareer Advisory committee
  • Meet with the advisory committee for a minimum of two times during the school year to evaluate make suggestions for improvements or changes and to assist in the promotion of the Career Development program.

Career Education Department Team Member

  • Record and maintain records of students visits at the middle school level
  • Provide support in gathering and reporting YearEnd Annual Reports data
  • Gathers records and helps to submit CTE state reports on advisory committee activities.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Choice Ready accountability measurements and data recording
  • Serves as a team member in supporting the High School Career Advisors including coverage (if needed) of the High School Career Centers and assistance with scheduled High School Career Development events and activities.

Coordinate and maintain the Junior Achievement Program.

  • Recruit train and support volunteer consultants and classroom teachers for grades 35 and some representative classes in grades K2 in the Grand Forks Schools. Schools in the consortium participate in grade levels of their choosing in Grades 36. This involves monitoring implementation of the program in approximately 110 classrooms with approximately 125 volunteers.
  • Manage funds grant writing and fund development for program sustainability.
  • Coordinate meetings of the formal program Advisory Board which meets semiannually.
  • Prepare coordinate and review program evaluation reports by teachers and volunteers for JA Boards the local school district and Jr. Achievement of the Upper Midwest Inc.

Other duties as assigned.

The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Terms of Employment: 188 day contract

Evaluation: By the Executive Director of Career & Technical Education at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15 and at least once each year thereafter (April 15.
