Loyola University New Orleans Department of Counseling is inviting applications for a tenure track assistant professor position beginning in the fall of 2025. The Loyola Counseling Department is CACREP accredited in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage Couples and Family Counseling. The Faculty are interested in developing a CACREP accredited Addictions Counseling program and the candidate will spearhead this effort with the support of the department faculty.

The faculty in the Department of Counseling train students to be ethical competent effective and thoughtful mental health practitioners. We use handson creative teaching methods that enhance student learning provide a diverse and enriching collection of training experiences during the course of the students academic preparation educate students to be clinically and theoretically competent ensure that students understand the ethical principles and social justice issues associated with counseling and encourage our students to pursue additional training and advanced certification throughout their professional careers. Most importantly students learn who they are. We help them become the best version of themselves while preparing them for a career to help others.

Examples of Duties

  • Lead the development of a CACREP accredited Addictions Counseling program
  • Teach masters level graduate courses in a CACREPapproved Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (a 33 load) including clinical courses. (Summer teaching is also possible for extra pay.
  • Engage in scholarly activity including conducting research and writing for publication in the area of clinical mental health counseling and/or addiction counseling
  • Sustained participation in professional activities scholarly activities and service to the profession
  • Contribute to student growth through supervising and advising students
  • Engage in service activities for the university community and profession.
  • Assist with program recruitment and retention
  • Other duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREPaccredited program is required.
  • An evolving research agenda evident through journal publications conference presentations and/or other forms of scholarly writing.
  • Licensed as a Professional Counselor in Louisiana or eligible to be Licensed as a Professional Counselor in Louisiana.
  • Relevant experience in the field of Mental Health Counseling and/or Addictions.
  • Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations
  • Maintain certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching Addictions and Multicultural Counseling
  • Experience teaching additional courses such as Research Methods Assessment Psychopathology Diagnosis and Practicum/Internship.
  • Has evidence of effective teaching and mentoring with counseling graduate students
  • Has experience working with a diverse faculty and student body.
