General Summary

To perform skilled work in the trade of Plumber.

Required Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Successful completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship program or five 5 years 60 months) of fulltime journey level plumber experience.
3. Possession of current State of Illinois Plumbers License.
4. Valid State of Illinois drivers license.
5. A final candidate must complete a postoffer preemployment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the preemployment physical.

Desired Qualifications

1. Knowledge sufficient in techniques and uses of tools.
2. Capable of planning work based on status of request.
3. Experience in maintenance of drainage waste vent potable water supply and fixtures etc.
4. Must have a valid state issued drivers license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Ability to lift 80 pounds.
2. Work at heights or depths of at least 30 feet or more.
3. Must be able to work underground in ceilings and in confined spaces and be able to maneuver and carry equipment to those locations.
4. Must be able to speak clearly.
5. Visual acuity to differentiate between colorcoded piping.
6. Ability to bend crouch kneel and reach overhead.
7. Work Environment Usually in and out of heated and protected areas; but occasionally exposed to heat cold rain snow etc.

This job posting is intended to create a pool of qualified candidates for future permanent AND Extra Help openings. There may not be an actual opening at the time of application.

Please fully complete the entire application including but not limited to the education and work history portions. Applicable parttime work experience will be considered toward qualifying for this position; however it will be converted to a fulltime equivalency to determine combined length of experience. The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position you will receive a score calculated based on your experience and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.

A final candidate (for a permanent position) must complete a postoffer preemployment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the preemployment physical.

A valid State of Illinois Plumbers license may either be uploaded under optional documents or submitted via one of the options listed below. A valid State of Illinois Plumbers license must be submitted in order to qualify for Plumber.

Extra Help:

Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health
insurance and retirement with Illinois State University. However Extra Help employees are
eligible to participate in the Universitys supplemental retirement savings plans 403b).
Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that
working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.

Extra Help employees are paid prevailing rate per the trade. They may work fulltime hours throughout their employment as Extra Help however they are not to exceed 900 hours during each Extra Help appointment.
