Details
The Department of Radiation Oncology and the Huntsman Cancer Institute HCI invite applications from Basic Science/Early Translational investigators with a strong background in cancer biology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (tenure track). Specific areas of interest to the department and HCI include immunology systems biology tumor microenvironment cancer metabolism signal transduction stem cell biology gene regulation/transcription genome instability DNA damage and repair mechanisms of tumor progression and metastasis and mechanisms of therapy resistance. A track record of research involving ionizing radiation or other cancer therapies would be welcome but is not mandatory as long as the candidate has a willingness to include this in future investigations. Preference will be given to candidates who have engaged in research with translational potential for example the utilization of specimens obtained from human patients or preclinical studies for which there is a clear path to eventual clinical testing. The investigators scientific program will be housed within HCI and will provide the opportunity to conduct collaborative work with the clinician investigators within the Department of Radiation Oncology and also within the broader community at HCI and the University of Utah. These combined entities offer a robust research environment and the candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to national and international collaborative research and to initiate and help facilitate interdisciplinary projects within the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the University of Utah. HCI and the University Health Sciences Center provide access to stateoftheart equipment and services through exceptional Core Facilities (see that enhance both discovery and translational science. HCI also offers stateoftheart laboratories including a new 225000 sq. ft. research building. For more information about HCI visit . Applicants for Assistant Professor are expected to hold a PhD (or equivalent) to have received appropriate postdoctoral training (minimum 23 years) and to have a track record of research impact and productivity. Applicants at the Associate Professor level should additionally have a proven record of independent funding ideally from the NIH or DOD and innovative research.
