Job Description

Western Reserve Academy one of the nations premier boarding schools invites experienced dynamic and collaborative educators who are passionate about teaching drama and theater. Candidates should have the ability to inspire students and colleagues and the willingness to participate fully in all that is associated with a vibrant boarding school community.


We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Drama Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a depth of theater knowledge as well as experience working with high school students. As the Drama Teacher you will be responsible for teaching one class each semester and directing one mainstage play per year.


Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and implement an engaging drama curriculum.
  • Instruct students on the fundamentals of theatre techniques improvisation voice projection and stage presence.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity collaboration and respect for others.
  • Organize and direct school one school play per year including selecting plays casting roles and coordinating and scheduling rehearsals.
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students on their performances and projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance grades and feedback.
  • Communicate effectively with students parents and colleagues regarding students progress and participation in theatre activities.
  • Stay current with trends and developments in theatre education and incorporate new methodologies and technologies into the curriculum as appropriate.
  • Teach one drama course per semester
Requirements

The ideal candidate possesses most or all of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Theatre Arts Drama Performing Arts or a related field (Masters degree preferred)
  • Minimum of five years of experience teaching High School students.
  • Passion for working with high school students and fostering their artistic development.
  • Enthusiasm to engage and lead teen learners in and out of the classroom.
  • Excellent communication organizational and leadership skills.
  • High degree of cultural competence and demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Strong knowledge of theatre history dramatic literature and various theatrical styles and techniques.
  • Willingness to develop connections and collaborate with other WRA academic departments university Theater departments and/or industry leaders.
  • Proficiency in using technology to enhance learning in the classroom.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in Theatre and/or education.
  • Training and competence in working with learners with diverse styles and needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the school community.
