Job Description

Position Summary
The Department of Peace and Conflict Studies ( at the University of North Carolina Greensboro seeks applicants for a ninemonth Professional Track (nontenure track) teachingfocused faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will begin August 2024 and offers a 2year contract which subsequently is renewable annually depending on job performance and departmental needs. We are seeking candidates who have specialization in theorydriven practice and community engagement across local national and international contexts in the areas of group conflict and reconciliation civic engagement peace intervention and operations and experience with diverse populations. The Department of Peace and Conflict Studies UNCG / PCS is committed to conflict transformation to build peaceful and just social systems through both theoryinformed practice and community engaged research and practice. This position is eligible for promotion in rank but does not include tenure. The position primarily supports the Departments teaching mission while also developing and maintaining community relationships and strategic partnerships. We address conflict across sectors and interpersonal interorganizational and international contexts throughout our MA and BA degree programs. We do this by educating students online as well as facetoface to effectively design positive and sustainable changes within a variety of settings sectors and contexts. The praxis skills knowledge and abilities developed in PCS address the wicked problems of our times. We seek faculty who are interdisciplinary in approach and transdisciplinary in scholarship to join our department as we grow our global and local leadership in conflict intervention/transformation social and environmental justice and community peacebuilding and engagement. The position focuses primarily on teaching and advising students. The successful applicant will teach eight courses annually 4:4 across the residential and online graduate and undergraduate programs as well as advise students contribute to curricular and programmatic development and coordinate with community partners for the departments undergraduate practicum and graduate colloquium courses and projects. An important responsibility of this position in addition to teaching and advising is to sustain existing and develop new mutually beneficial and reciprocal partnerships with organizations and communities within and beyond the university that benefit our theoryinformed practice and communityengaged courses and scholarship. Experience in organizational development conflict intervention community organizing engagement and activism preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment. Candidates must have substantial training and experience in peace and conflict transformation (such as but not limited to community and civic engagement global leadership conflict management peace and governance and civilmilitary interaction) and demonstrated experience teaching in online and/or facetoface classrooms organizational or community settings. The candidate must be able to teach courses in the core undergraduate and graduate curricula online as well as facetoface. They must have knowledge and critical perspectives of current issues and theoretical trends in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies related to equity diversity inclusion social justice.

Preferred Qualifications
The qualities being sought include a strong record of teaching excellence and commitment to teaching and mentoring students online as well as facetoface superb communication and interpersonal skills deep commitment to diversity and collegiality. The successful candidate will be a collaborative partner within the department and university and in the wider community.
