Job Duties
Are you someone driven by innovation with a passion for design VDOT burg District is looking for Senior Roadway Design Engineer who can support the Virginia Department of Transportation to keep Virginia safe and moving!
This position will provide engineering expertise in assigned program areas. Provide recommendations for resolution of project issues. Communicate with internal VDOT staff local government staff consultants citizens and FHWA regarding transportation projects and programs. Assist in developing implementing and monitoring policies procedures guidance and practices for engineering projects and programs.
Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible charge engineer in compliance with policies procedures and the Code of Virginia.
- Development of policies and procedures
- Develop recommend and implement process and policy improvements
- Project team participation
- Project management
- Manage contracts
- Roadway design
- Conduct engineering studies
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
- Experience applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design.
- Experience applying local state and federal transportation rules regulations specifications and standards.
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Ability to coach and train others.
- Valid Professional Engineers license.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering and design software.
- Experience applying principles of roadway safety that impact roadway standards and special designs.
- Ability to effectively plan and schedule work.
- Experience applying roadway design criteria basic storm water management regulations construction methods standards specifications and materials.
Additional Considerations
- Certification as a Project Management Professional.
- Progressively responsible experience in roadway design and project management to include responsible charge engineering.
