The Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure group at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) has built a solid foundation for advanced engineering services based on experience with complex engineering analyses and design frequently supported by materials evaluation. Special areas of expertise include failure analysis wind effects seismic analysis soilstructure interaction dynamic and blast response structural plastics composites metallurgy and corrosion analysis.

Our EMI team at SGH is always looking for great talent and especially people who enjoy solving difficult problems in a creative way. EMI applies engineering mechanics materials science numerical simulation innovative technologies and collective expertise to solve our clients toughest problems in an inspiring work environment that nurtures lifelong learning and growth. A successful candidate for EMI may work on projects related to buildings bridges pipelines nuclear facilities tanks rail vehicles rotating equipment precision observatory structures and other nonbuilding structures and systems.

What Youll Be Doing:
The candidate will be a key contributor in materials science and engineering within Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. They will work on projects where materials (metals concrete polymers and composites) play a critical role including: evaluating and specifying materials for new designs investigating existing materials applications conducting failure analysis and developing repair recommendations. Applications include structural components and industrial and commercial products. The candidate will be expected to manage tasks collaborate with clients prepare written reports and presentations and perform laboratory and field studies.

  • Support material selection for structural mechanical and building applications.
  • Conduct failure analysis of metals concrete polymers composites and other structural materials.
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to assess existing conditions.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and client presentations.
  • Manage and perform laboratory tests and analyses.
  • Assist in the constructionadministration phase of projects including bid assistance submittal review and site observations.
  • Contribute to condition assessments of existing buildings and materialsrelated investigations.
  • Support the design of repair/rehabilitation measures and the preparation of construction documents.
  • Participate in technical development efforts including research professional publications and conference presentations.

What Youll Need:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science Metallurgy Structural Engineering or a related field; or B.S. in these fields with 3 to 7 years of experience in materials science and engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Coursework in structural mechanics and design is strongly preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites including those not accessible by public transportation.
  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report if applicable.

Compensation:

Anticipated annual base salary:$78520 $103480. This range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidates experience qualifications and work location.

Base salary is a part of SGHs industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary pay for extra hours worked an annual discretionary bonus program generous paid time off and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGHs Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
