Job Description

The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Seattle Childrens Hospital and the University of Washington Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for 2 full time open position as Acute Care Oncologists.

The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Seattle Childrens Hospital provides a rich and collaborative environment for basic clinical and translational research and boasts a diverse faculty. The Oncology Program is an integral component of the Cancer & Blood Disorders Center and currently includes 36 faculty members 9 fellows as well as 27 advance practice providers. Ideal candidates will have a strong record of demonstrated clinical expertise caring for pediatric hematology patients. The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center has close affiliations with research investigators within the Seattle Childrens Research Institute the Fred Hutch Cancer Center and the University of Washington and a willingness to collaborate across departmental or center boundaries is essential.

These positions will devote majority of effort to clinical responsibilities in the Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Seattle Childrens Hospital. Responsibilities include providing inhospital overnight attending care for medical issues arising in Hematology Oncology and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) patients and supervision and clinical teaching of residents. Acute Care Oncology appointments also include nonclinical Academic Service Time for clinical education Quality Improvement (QI) research and administrative duties. At times formal coursework is available for Acute Care Oncologists interested in developing their QI and teaching skills.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching research and service.

These positions will be fulltime at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor and will serve as an Acute Care Oncology attending physicians. Acute Care Oncology attendings are University of Washington faculty members and are candidates for raises and promotions. Like all clinical faculty Acute Care Oncology attending positions have a 12 month service period and are reappointed on an annual basis. Depending on availability Acute Care Oncology attendings may also have the opportunity to assume some daytime clinical duties in their second year and beyond.

Clinical Assistant Clinical Associate Professors and Clinical Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12month service period (July 1 June 30 and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12month period (July June) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for this position will be: Clinical Assistant Professors MD $13085 $19627 per month $157020 $235524 annually) Clinical Associate Professors MD $16168 $24250 per month $194016 $291000 annually) Clinical Professors MD $20335 $30502 per month $244020 $366024 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Childrens University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in university benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Childrens University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Childrens University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).



Qualifications include

  • MD DO or foreign equivalent degree
  • pedaitric board certification and boardeligibility/ boardcertification in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
  • Must be currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Washington

Applicants should be comfortable with the inpatient care of sick children.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1B visa graduates of foreign (nonU.S. medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
