The Mechanical groupis comprised of a group of professional engineers designers and technologists led by a management team that has pioneered renewable power technology globally.We have experience in the design construction and commissioning of hydro power facilities throughout the world.
Our Niagara Falls team is currently seeking a dedicated Senior Mechanical Engineer with Hydro Power experience. This individual would complete project work both in the office and in the field. TheSenior Mechanical Engineer is broadly responsible for establishing system requirements performing functional analyses preparing engineering calculations technical specifications data sheets and reports while mentoring and leading junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform system analyses establish user requirements analyze system functional and performance requirements define design criteria and provide input to the design team on layouts and designs
- Leading and managing the process of engineering commitments in accordance with scope schedule budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion
- Interfacing with other engineering disciplines involved in projects as required
- Taking ownership of the high level technical deliverables
- Developing preliminary and detailed designs as well as overseeing and guiding the preparation of mechanical drawings and engineering specifications for construction
- Being an active participant in technical design reviews and calculation checks
- Providing mentoring coaching technical guidance and quality assurance to other engineers in order to ensure the technical adequacy of engineering work
- Prepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines
- Manage and review engineering work packages associated with project deliverables including management of project budgets and schedule
- Prepare review or approve technical deliverables such as equipment designs specifications data sheets calculations etc.
- Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports within areas of expertise
- Provide input to engineering operating and capital cost estimates
- Prepare review or approve project standard specifications and design criteria
- Provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings
- Participate in and contribute to design reviews
- Assist in the commissioning of systems on site as required
- Follow company standard quality procedures
- Prepare or provide input to proposals in the area of expertise.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc/BEng in mechanical engineering
- A Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering would be considered an asset
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or other Canadian Province (candidates with strong international experience and eligibility for P Eng. designation in Canada will be considered)
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience and at least 8 years of relevant experience in any or all of the following:
- Design of penstocks (buried penstocks above ground penstocks and liners)
- Design of gates and mechanical operating systems including (Vertical gates Radial gates Bulkheads Stoplogs valves)
- Balance of Plant design for hydroelectric facilities including piping and other mechanical systems for turbine generators
- Hydro turbine design requirements and systems and related performance and condition assessments
- Experience with hoist design (Wire rope hoists Hydraulic hoists Gantry cranes)
- Proficiency with Computer Design Tools (Mathcad AutoCAD Inventor Solidworks) will be considered an asset
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs
- Knowledge of Canadian and provincial codes and standards
- Strong client focus and a desire to achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and time lines
- Experience in leading small and large mechanical teams in multidisciplinary projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good planning and organizational skills
- Ability to function with minimal supervision
- Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise engineers and designers.
