JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

The Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WF CTSI) is a leading research institute focused on advancing clinical and translational science through innovative research and strategic partnerships. Supported by a $5 million annual grant from the National Institutes of Health the WF CTSI plays a crucial role in fulfilling the research mission of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine which serves as the Academic Core of Advocate Health. Our mission is to improve health outcomes by rapidly translating research discoveries into clinical practice.

This position will lead a team that provides informatics expertise including data discovery extraction analysis and management; and will coreport to the Director of Research Informatics and CTSA Administrative Director in the School of Medicine and will be responsible for driving the goals and priorities set for the CTSA Informatics infrastructure.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Masters degree with five years of progressive and applicable experience in the area served required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Significant experience and documented success in setting strategic direction and delivering on objectives for a business unit company or academic unit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Manages work of Informatics staff directed towards CTSA deliverables; developing and executing on projects with academic and clinical partners; monitors measures and evaluates effort usage and needs
  2. Works with CTSA Leadership to prioritize tasks and goals and monitor progress. Employs analytical and project management skills to identify and clarify requirements for data needs.
  3. Coordinates with other CTSA Program/Module Administrative and Faculty leaders to find opportunities for synergies and program objective alignment.
  4. Facilitates the administrative aspects of reporting for the CTSAs Health Informatics Module including preparation of annual reporting preparation for External and Internal Advisory Committee Meetings and other formal meetings as requested. This is done in direct collaboration with the modules Faculty Leaders.
  5. Serves as strong advocate and leader to improve analytical capability of teammates mentoring direct reports and promoting the development of advanced programming and analytic skills.
  6. Serves as a liaison with regional and enterprise informatics analytics and reporting leaders and teams. Works with IT groups to follow procedures for ensuring infrastructure needs are met and resolving optimization issues. Participates in committees as appropriate.
  7. Educates and presents to leadership researchers and other partners on capabilities progress and technical topics related to the informatics work. Develops appropriate communication and communication methods to facilitate the flow of information and maximizes effective communication throughout the program.
  8. Directs the creation and implementation of educational content on CTSA data infrastructure available tools and platforms access processes and more to strengthen the acumen of scientists leaders and staff relating to the acquisition and interpretation of data in coordination with the CTSA Workforce Development program.
  9. Coordinates with the CTSI Dissemination Implementation and Continuous Quality Improvement / Evaluation Program to manage outcome evaluation tools and systems to determine module and service effectiveness.
  10. Maintains current knowledge of government regulations policies and trends that affect the health care industry and independently conducts online research to access documents pertinent regulations or to access publicly available datasets. Ensures program and functional area operations and activities adhere to any legal guidelines and internal policies.
  11. Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new teammates recommendation for promotions career development performance evaluations resolution of concerns corrective actions and overall engagement.
  12. Assists leader with budget development and planning. Ensures areas of responsibility meet fiscal requirements and monitors expenditures.
  13. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities with a record of accomplishment in working effectively with analytics teams researchers and leaders
  2. Expert knowledge of health care data and standards as well as strong programming background with multiple data science languages and platforms
  3. Significant experience in leading informatics teams and managing large research data warehouses and ETL and application development
  4. Demonstrated group and project management skills including significant experience creating and implementing data and analytics infrastructure and support services to facilitate clinical research
  5. Fluency in HIPAA data privacy regulations and standards and the roles of Honest Brokers
  6. Experience with the grant funding life cycle and data needs at various stages
  7. Proficient with health care data analytics including physician hospital and pharmacy data lab results and electronic medical records
  8. Excellent oral and written presentation skills and ability to make effective oral presentations and prepare reports for a variety of audiences including regional and enterprise executive leaders research scientists and clinician investigators
  9. Capable of independent thinking in terms of considering potential areas for analysis or performance improvement and initiate projects around those areas without direction
  10. Ability to effectively manage complex dynamically changing priorities around the needs of customers and bring a marketing mentality in providing exceptional customer service to CTSA stakeholders internal and external
