Job Description
Depop is looking for an experienced Web Engineer to join us permanently. Within this role youll be working in the Marketplace product engineering pillar developing the services used for interaction between our customers Depop agents and Depop.
As a member of this cross functional space you will collaborate with product design and other engineers to create a seamless efficient and trustworthy journey for our users from the moment they register to the moment they receive an order or need customer support.
Youll own the entire lifecycle of small/medium projects of moderate complexity in both our web app and web APIs. Youll need to be comfortable dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity proactively pulling in people at the right time. Your work will be pivotal in ensuring we facilitate excellent interactions between Depop and our customers on the platform.
Responsibilities:
As a Web Engineer within this team you can expect to:
Work closely with Engineering Managers Product Managers Product Designers and various Engineers to understand problems and to design solutions
Produce highquality code that is wellstructured and simple to understand that will be used by 1M active daily users
Take ownership of product development from feature discovery to the breakdown of work and its implementation
Endtoend application support including production incident management
Embrace agile methodologies and usercentred thinking
Engage in a culture of continuous improvement by attending events such as blameless postmortems architecture reviews and engineering guild sessions.
Collaborate on a daily basis with fellow engineers in the cross functional environment to solve problems and write code
Mentor and coach your colleagues
Qualifications
Solid JavaScript skills including concepts like asynchronous programming promises closures types and ES6.
HTML/CSS experience including concepts like layout specificity cross browser compatibility and accessibility.
Experience in TypeScript React and Node.js.
Building automated tests using Javascript test frameworks.
Experience consuming RESTful API services.
Comfortable in using Git.
Experience working collaboratively as part of an agile team in a productfocused business.
Nice to haves:
Experience deploying web applications at scale.
Experience writing RESTful API services either in Javascript or Kotlin/Scala.
Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with databases like PostgreSQL DynamoDB MySQL
Experience of CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) and embracing DevOps with maintaining pipelines using Jenkins.
