NOTICE OF VACANCY
Social Worker Special Education

Montgomery County Public Schools Virginia has an opening for a School Social Worker for the upcoming school year. This is an opening within the Special Education Department.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education the School Social Worker provides a variety of services to children and families. The individual works with students parents school personnel and with representatives of community agencies to serve as an advocate and help create a nurturing and inclusive school environment where every student can thrive. The School Social Worker also serves as a link between families and community and school resources.
LICENSURE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Department of Education teaching license with endorsement as a school social worker.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Know developmental psychology
- Possess knowledge of school policies and regulations
- Possess knowledge of the philosophy and operation of available social services
- Demonstrate strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills
- Utilize Google Suite applications
- Demonstrate computer literacy and functional knowledge of commonly used office equipment and workflow technologies
- Communicate effectively with strong written verbal and interpersonal skills
- Maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality
- Engage and communicate with students and families with a nonjudgmental attitude
- Ability to multitask work with interruptions and work under pressure while meeting estabished deadlines.
- Demonstrate dependability punctuality and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities
- Possess knowledge and skills in working with students in need of additional support
- Demonstrate a studentcentered and flexible approach
- Assist parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources. Provide parenting education.
- Provide emotional support to students and develop intervention strategies to increase school success.
- Provide case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.
- Identify and aid in removing educational barriers for students and provide support to teachers and staff on how to best support a students needs.
- Make home visits and provide transportation to students/families on occasion.
- Participate in school and department meetings.
- Attend required professional development.
- Maintains open communication with students parents staff and Supervisors
- Strives to improve professional knowledge and competency
- Performs other jobrelated tasks as assigned by the Supervisors
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with case management
- Experience in a public school setting
FLSA Status: Exempt
SALARY: $50072.26 $83120.04 annually; with benefits; commensurate with experience and prorated to start date
