About the role:
As aStaff MechanicalEngineeryouwill be applying your indepth knowledge and experience in electromechanical product development to the detail design and development of products that use polymers metals and rubbers and which closelyinterfacewith PCBs and highpower electrical components.
You will be working closely with team members across our global development team so your spoken and written communication needs to be clear and effectivein order tobe able to present your ideas yourconceptsand your feedback.
You will be problemsolving on new product developmentidentifyingand resolving root causes of field failures and implementing effective cost reduction opportunities.
What you will do:
Designing(70 & testing 30)new components and products sometimes as sole contributor but often as part of a team of contributors.
Manage assigned mechanical design projects adhering to project timelines budget constraints and quality standards.
Perform daytoday CAD 3D & 2D) activities anddocumentation.
Conductperiodicdesign review withmechanical teams &cross functionalteams.
Reviewing and analyzing solutions to achieve the best outcome for performance/cost/schedule
Product testing (DVT) &Testing proofofconcepts and prototypes for performance
Failure analysis and root cause identification
Componentreview and approval including global travel to be onsite at vendors during pre production stage.
Generating own (and reviewing others) documentation including concept proposals analysis reportscomponentspecifications review minutes
Ensure quality by design.
Product testing (DVT) &Testing proofofconcepts and prototypes for performance
Design and execute comprehensive test plans(Inhouse and external lab)to verify mechanical performance against design specifications including static and dynamic loading fatigue testing environmental testing and reliability testing.
Analyze test dataidentifypotential issues and implement design improvements to address any deficiencies.
Who you are and what you bring:
Bachelors Degree (or higher qualification) in Mechanical Engineering
5years (with BE / BS) or 3 years (with Masters)ofindustry work experiencein product design & development.
Handsonexperience in Designing electromechanicalproducts
Good exposureonUL/IEC and related standards. Experience on UL1741 IL9540 UL 9540Awill be an added advantage
Experience in testing below international standards is desirable(butnot limited to).
Inverters UL 1741 Electrical connectors UL 6703 UL 9703 EN 60512 EN 60352; Polymers UL 94 UL 746C.
Hands on is preparingmechanical mockups Prototypes Electromechanical assemblies Cable
Good Exposure on plastics Sheetmetal casting part design and manufacturing process
Good understandingoncable assemblies ECAD/MCAD integrations
Good exposure on structural and thermal design considerations
Good Exposure on DFX for high volume production
Good exposureonprototype techniques for Design development and verification
Expertisein SolidWorks and EPDM. Knowledgeonany other CAD packages will be an added advantage.
ExposureonCAE tools is an added advantage.
Indepth knowledge and understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) of parts made through injectionmoulding sheet metal stamping milling/turning
Experience using ComputerAided development tools (SolidWorks)
Clear communication verbal and written
Experience in the design and sustaining activities on highvolume products 500k pa) would be a plusand alsopreviousemployment in highpower and consumer products industries would be a plus.
