Thisposition is a full performance level of technical work involving theinstallation repair and maintenance of radio transmitters receiverscommunication subsystems audio transport networks (microwave Fiber optic& Il) voice logging recorders and other related communication equipmentas well as performing the same activities with speed control devices incarcamera systems and body worn cameras in accordance with Federal CommunicationsCommission (FCC) regulations and manufacture specifications.
Installationremovals maintenance/repair of mobile & portable radios base stationscommunication consoles remote control units along with other technologies suchas incar cameras speed control devices incar computers voice loggingrecorders and body worn cameras. Installs de removes equipment from vehiclesand remote sites.
Maintains repairsand operates interoperability communications systems at mobile and fixed sitesincluding microwave & fiber optic systems.
Maintains/repairs andinstalls logging recorders speedcontrol equipment and audio transportcircuits.
Maintains accurateinventory and maintenance records on all equipment in assigned area. Orders andmaintains a sufficient number of parts and supplies for the operation of theassigned radio shop. Maintains shop & remote tower site cleanliness throughregular cleaning (Ex. Dusting/mopping).
Maintains the accuracyof all electronic test equipment within the limits specified by themanufacturer and the FCC.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Education: Graduation from an accredited high schoolor possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five years of experience in the repair of electronic communicationsequipment four years must have included the repair of twoway FM radios.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the successful completion of aoneyear program of study in radio electronics at a recognized training schooltrade school or college for up to one year of the required general experience.
2.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces militaryservice experience as a noncommissioned officer in Electronics Technician(Communications) classifications or Signal Corps Aerospace Maintenance orData/ Communications Maintenance specialty codes in the aviation communicationsfield of work on a yearforyear basis for the required experience.
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the followingpreferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specificinformation on your application regarding your qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
1.Five years ofexperience(maintenance repair and installation) with voice audiotransport circuits (DS0 dealing with microwave fiber optics andT1backhaul systems.
2.ExperiencewithP25 TDMA Land Mobile Radio.
3.Experienceperformingmaintenance of P25 Motorola Communication Console
Systems.
4.Experienceperformingrepairs/maintenanceon any radar and/or laser emitting
equipment.
1. Applicants for this classification may be requiredto possess either a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator license a FCC Ship Radar Endorsement a National Association of Business and Educational Radio certificate or an Associated Public Safety Communications Officer Incorporated certificate. If license or certificate is required applicants must list their license or certificate number and expiration date on the application.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require theoperation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be requiredto possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State ofMaryland.
Candidates for this classificationmay be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform theduties of the job classification.
