The Role

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the Spartan Controls Northwestern Centre by performing and coordinating all maintenance product ordering inventory management operations and safety tasks in support of all programs within the Centre. This role involves the calibration verification maintenance and repair of instrumentation sensors final control elements controllers and process equipment including chemicals and compressed gasses to uphold the facilitys operational standards. The individual in this position is required to work independently maintain a constant presence within the facility to observe operations and proactively address any maintenance or operational needs while collaborating with team members to ensure effective communication and coordination of tasks.

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

Ensure Functionality/Operations/Safety of all Lab Equipment

  • Ensuring proper functionality of all process equipment and instrumentation
  • Ensuring all equipment is calibrated verified and documented
  • Develop/maintain/action SOPs
  • Inventory management & ordering for programs
  • Operating process equipment
  • Ensuring all equipment meets all applicable safety standards and codes

Coordinate Personnel

  • Schedule and supervise 3rd party contractors as needed for program support initiatives
  • Work with faculty and staff to organize student labs and use of space

Strategic Planning

  • Forecast component end of life
  • Assist inthe development and maintenance of SCNC evergreen list
  • Develop & maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for process and lab equipment
  • Collaborate with faculty and Dean to accommodate future programs


Requirements

The successful candidate will have a 4year Journeyman in Instrumentation and Control Technician with preferred Red Seal Certification (preferably an Alberta Journeyperson with completion of Apprenticeship) and 2 years of experience post journeyperson certification in oil and gas pulp and paper or power generation. Additional preferred qualifications may include 4th class power engineer.
