Senior Seat Stress Engineer in Hamburg Germany (Part 21J EASA Modifications) (M/F/D)

THE ROLE:

To help us lead the future of commercial aircraft modification in Boeing EASA Modifications we are seeking applicants for a Senior Seat Stress Engineer (M/F/D) to join our rapidly expanding world class team within our Part 21J Design Organization. We will support you to develop your already substantial skills and encourage you to reach your career goals.

The successful candidate will support the certification of large aircraft modifications within the fields of seat integration for our global airline partners to demonstrate compliance with relevant regulatory and customer requirements and procedures defined in the companys Design Organization Handbook (DOH).

This role is based in our BGS EASA Modifications sites in Hamburg Germany with hybrid working options.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to the Structures Engineering Manager and working with the global engineering services team across multiple timezones in order to identify requirements and their associated solutions for active and upcoming projects
  • Lead certification activities to ensure compliance with design requirements and be a technical focal for certification and stress issues related to seat certification and installation
  • Compile and review structural substantiation documents related to:
    • Product certification and integration to the aircraft of:
      • Seating installations (economy premium economy business and first class seats incl. first class suites and seat furniture)
      • LRU installations on seat level
  • Performing hand calculations and FE calculations within the fields of linear nonlinear and multibody dynamic simulation
  • Assess and predict structural failure modes incl. of root cause analysis
  • Act as Boeing representative during customer meetings such as ITCM PDR CDR and FAI in support of active and upcoming projects. Provide additional onsite support to assist the customers during the embodiment phase of the project

This role will require occasional national and/or international travel to visit teammates customers and subcontractors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree within Stress/Structures/Mechanical or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering
  • Five years relevant experience

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Current or recent employment within the aerospace industry specifically working with an EASA Part 21J Design Organisation (or equivalent) is essential
  • Experience within (E)TSO program of seat development and certification from beginning to approval incl. test witnessing is essential
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of EASA regulatory and airworthiness requirements including (E)TSO CS25 JAR25 and FAR25 requirements incl. related ACs and AMCs (relevant to 25.562
  • Experience of certifying novel seat features such as pretensioners and air bags
  • Proficient in hand calculations and FEA incl. linear nonlinear and multibody dynamic analysis
  • A high level of attention to detail and professional integrity
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively work on multiple programmes with varying level of requirements
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and show flexibility to changing situations / demands
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and customers to embody the core values of the business: Honesty Integrity and Transparency
  • Willing and able to help develop mentor and coach less experienced staff
  • Experience navigating OEM data systems for specifications and standards
