Job Description

Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health.

Summary:

Research in the Dhar lab uses a variety of biological approaches to study liver diseases cancer and multiorgan crosstalk. Our mission is to understand how hypernutrition and metabolic stress influence the development of Metabolic associated Steatohepatitis (MASH) liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The overarching goal of the lab is to understand the basic mechanism of disease development in order to develop novel therapeutic approaches and biomarkers for MASH and HCC.

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available to study:

  • The impact of metabolic dysfunction on the initiation and progression of MASH fibrosis and HCC.
  • Identify novel therapeutic targets for MASH and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Under limited direction the Postdoctoral fellow will plan and manage all aspects of a research project including research design experimentation funding acquisition and publication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research design and planning
  • Experimentation and troubleshooting
  • Data collection analysis and interpretation
  • Data recording and compliance
  • Management of collaborations
  • Results summarization
  • Preparation of grants and manuscripts

Education and/or Experience:

  • Ph.D. in biomedical sciences
  • Research background in liver and kidney diseases is preferred
  • Experience with culturing mammalian primary and cancer cells in vitro molecular biology techniques lentiviral production overexpression and knockdown or knockout genes in vitro
  • Using mouse models of MASH and HCC are required. Expertise in in vivo techniques such as intrasplenic injection i.v. IP oral gavage subcutaneous injection is required
  • Experience in harvesting and processing various mouse tissues in required. Isolation of various primary cell types from the liver in preferable
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry and microscopy is required
  • Ability to perform basic bioinformatics analysis of bulk or single cell RNAseq data is preferable.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research projects
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Be responsible and have strong time management skills
  • Able to analyze and resolve issues of high/moderate complexity
  • Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator Prism ImageJ

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Compensation:

The expected hiring range for this position is $70000.00 to $75000 commensurate with relevant experience.
