Job Summary TheHydraulics Designerwill join our team in Tysons Corner VA to support the design of infrastructure projects in the Southeast. As part of our team you will work closely with Project Engineers on DesignBidBuild alternative delivery infrastructure projects to provide technical planning design and construction support for hydrologic and hydraulic models erosion control stormwater abatement and green infrastructure on highway bridge municipal street and pedestrian projects. In this position you will be responsible for coordinating drainage design activities performing field investigations and assessments preparing specifications and permit submittals developing preliminary project cost estimates and reviewing design work for compliance with DOT regulations. You will also attend meetings with clients the public project stakeholders and staff. You will utilize your expertise in MicroStation GEOPAK drainage and/or Open Roads Designer (ORD) to produce drainage designs profiles stormwater alleviation and pavement drainage. Duties will include hydrologic & hydraulic modeling scour analysis highway drainage design and stormwater management while complying with local State DOT and NCDENR requirements for stormwater runoff. Responsibilities - Assist with coordinating drainage design activities on highway and bridge construction projects to include technical planning design and construction support for hydrologic and hydraulic models erosion control storm water abatement and green infrastructure.
- Perform field investigations and assessments of project sites to aid in the hydraulic design process.
- Prepare and assist with specifications and permit submittals.
- Assist in developing preliminary project cost estimates and evaluating quantities.
- Review documents and design work for DOT compliance with plans and specifications.
- Attend client public project and staff meetings including client progress plan review and preconstruction.
- Knowledge and use of MicroStation GEOPAK drainage and/or Open Roads Designer (ORD) to produce drainage designs profiles stormwater alleviation and pavement drainage.
Qualifications - Proficiency in hydrology and hydraulics.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively prioritizing client satisfaction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in hydrology and hydraulics modeling.
- A valid Drivers License and safe driving record are required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
- Must complete a preemployment screening; ICE is a drugfree workplace.
Education and Experience Requirements - Bachelors degree in civil engineering or related field required.
- EIT required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire andProfessional Engineer (PE) with in 4 years of hire.
- 05 years of water resources experience performing drainage design on highway and bridge construction projects required.
- Experience with Department of Transportation design principles is desired. Familiarity with VDOT design principles is preferred.
- Familiarity with software such as MicroStation GEOPAK HECRAS HECHMS TR20 FHWA Hydraulics Toolbox HY8 etc. is advantageous.
Physical and Environmental Demands This position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects and proficiency in recognizing sound tone and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods.
When performing field work the role involves moderate physical activity such as walking standing bending and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 3050 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough site inspections. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions including hot cold and noisy settings and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic conditions or traversing wetlands and wooded areas.
Expected Hours of Work This is a fulltime onsite position operating within regular office hours of 8:00 am 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. Flexibility for occasional night and weekend work based on project demands is expected. This position involves 1020 field work with 8090 design engineering.Travel will primarily be to job sites within the local area with occasional trips to other ICE projects in the Southeast region. Fieldwork and site visits may be required.
