Join us as an Engineering Technician Drive Innovation in Advanced Laser Systems for Defense Applications

Are you ready to build cuttingedge technology that shapes the future of defense systems Coherent Aerospace & Defense Emerging Products & Technology is searching for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our elite team working on groundbreaking laser systems for aerospace and defense. Bring your expertise skill and drive and help us deliver exceptional solutions to our customers!

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assembly & Fabrication: Perform precise assembly repair and testing of electrical fiber optic bulk optic and optomechanical assemblies for lab experiments prototypes and customer deliverables following detailed schematics and work instructions. This includes soldering cable harness fabrication and fiber optic splicing.
  • Build Prototype Systems: Build and modify prototypes based on engineering specifications.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct functional testing of electrical and optical/fiber assemblies using various test equipment such as multimeters oscilloscopes arbitrary waveform generators spectrum analyzers power meters beam profilers and signal generators. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with assemblies identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Write test procedures and document test results accurately and thoroughly. Assist engineers in performing experiments and collecting measurement data.
  • Support R&D Labs: Assist engineers with setting up experiments and assembling test fixtures. Coordinate receiving of material and maintain inventory of components and supplies. Perform routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment.

Education & Experience

  • Associates degree in Electronics Technology Fiber Optics or a related field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills & Other Requirements

  • HandsOn Skills: Strong soldering skills. Experience using test equipment such as multimeters oscilloscopes arbitrary waveform generators spectrum analyzers power meters beam profilers and signal generators. Experience with hand tools and basic power tools. Strong attention to detail.
  • Technical KnowHow:Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings schematics and work instructions. Working knowledge of analog and digital electronics. Strong problemsolving and troubleshooting skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Word PowerPoint Excel Teams).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance if one is required to perform job responsibilities.

Desired (but not required)

  • Experience assembling and splicing optical fiber and fibercoupled components.
  • Experience assembling aligning and cleaning of bulk optics (e.g. mirrors lenses polarizers filters etc.
  • Experience developing test applications using LabVIEW or other programming languages/tools is a plus.

Working Conditions

Primarily an engineering technician function with office and engineering lab working conditions. Also includes work in a cleanroom environment which requires wearing cleanroom apparel such as a gown shoe covers hairnet and gloves.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift/move test equipment up to 50 lb. Ability to perform fiber splicing component assembly and optic alignment tasks which requires use of hand tools. Ability to perform circuit board rework soldering cable assembly and component assembly tasks which requires use of hand tools and soldering tools.
