At WACHS we recognise the value and importance of good mental health for people living in rural and remote areas. We understand the importance and potential impact this can have on quality of life and the ability to contribute as ongoing members of rural communities.
Mental health problems are now the second highest disease behind cancer in Western Australia. Nationally suicide is the leading cause of death of our young people accounting for onethird of deaths of Australians aged 15 to 24. These figures are even higher in Aboriginal communities and other vulnerable groups.
Successfully implementing the Strategy will be an iterative process across all regions.
