The primary duties of the Release of Information Specialist include screening medical record requests and authorizations to assure they meet all legal & regulatory requirements per designated release type; completing release of information requests electronically including generating letters & invoices as necessary; logging release of information as required by HIPAA; invoicing for billable requests per procedure; communicating with practitioners to obtain requested information (i.e. Physical Therapy Physicians Case Management); preparing and certifying medical record subpoenas for court; and other duties as deemed appropriate.
Associates degree in Health Information Technology and RHIT or eligible required. Must be able to work independently and have the ability to prioritize work. Excellent verbal/written communication analytical and computer skills required. *RHIT eligible candidates must obtain RHIT within one year of appointment.
RHIT with one year of medical records experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Monday Friday 8 am 4:30 pm. Some holidays; no weekends
