ABOUT THE ROLE:

Our team of Cultural Consultants work in a Social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) practitioner / Behaviour Support Practitioner capacity and work as key membersof a multidisciplinary team to provide flexible culturally intelligent consultancy to people with a disability youth and adults involved with the justice system and kids in outofhome care. Focussing on a holistic approach they help empower our clients and make a real impact. Due to cultural protocols we are seeking Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander MEN to work alongside our team and directly with the client oneonone providing social and emotional wellbeing and behaviour support to adult men young men and children across all of our service areas.

SAL Consulting Group considers that being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander male is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under subs 351(b)(ii) of the AntiDiscrimination Act 1996.

This position will involve but is not limited to:

  • Developing internally as an SEWB framework specialist and committing to ongoing internal training of the essential components to maintain registration as a Behaviour Support Practitioner (core practitioner)
  • Working in partnership with SAL Consulting practitioners to ensure the provision of holistic and culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander clients
  • Using SEWB framework to support the clients their family and carers to identify their cultural spiritual social and wellbeing needs
  • Providing cultural guidance and information to the multidisciplinary team to promote awareness and sensitivity to the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Maintaining comprehensive notes of your work to share appropriate information and reporting
  • Providing SEWB consultancy in a variety of settings incl. in the home the community in schools the clinic or via telehealth (where appropriate)
  • Developing and collecting resources and implementing strategies that contribute to the quality of life of each client you work with
  • Attending care team meetings and providing specific culturally safe input
  • Training care teams for a deeper understanding through sharing the whole story of the person

The position is suitable for both experienced SEWB Practitioners and those with less professional experience as we aim to focus on the individuals strengths to tailor a caseload supervision and training to your specific needs.

While our office base and primary work is in Darwin we also offer a range of opportunities to work regionally (Katherine Alice Springs) and within remote Communities (Gunbalanya Maningrida and Ramingining).

Skills And Experiences

Essential Criteria:

  • Workplace Literacy Skills

Desirable Experience Interest and Skills :

  • Ability to maintain and build on positive working relationships
  • Demonstrated understanding of health and social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanderpeoples
  • Ability to effectively engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across language groups and communities
  • Ability to communicate an understanding of clients needs and goals leveraging both lived and learned experience
  • Identify and develop resources to assist in the appropriate cultural support of clients
  • Experience or interest in working with people with intellectual and other disabilities and/or experiences of trauma who have complex needs
  • Reliability and organisational skills in particular scheduling your workload
  • Language/s will be highly regarded

Due to the nature of our business it is required that our staff:

  • Have a current Drivers Licence
  • Have a current Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening or the ability to attain these checks.
