ROLE of the POSITION

The Department of Theatre at UNLV seeks a dynamic independentthinking individual to join our team as a fulltime Assistant Professor of Theatre in Screen Acting starting July 1 2025. This tenuretrack position offers an incredible opportunity to shape the future of graduate and undergraduate students in screen acting education in a diverse interdisciplinary and innovative department.

We are looking for a highly motivated educator and accomplished industry professional to teach in our current MFA and BA programwith an expected launch of a BFA in Fall 2026who focuses on acting for the camera and new media performance. This is an opportunity to nurture the next generation of screen artists champion inclusivity and contribute to a department that values collaboration and artistic excellence.

UNLV Theatrelocated just two miles from the worldfamous Las Vegas Stripaims to continue building national recognition through successful students who matriculate from its elite Stage and Screen Acting (SSA) program. This program requires an audition and offers separate classes from our general course listings. Many SSA graduates work as leads in movies TV shows and voiceover artists. Many students attain SAGAFTRA cards and representation while enrolled in classes.

We nurture strong artistic talent and skills in our students from across the US. We integrate dynamic professional artists from the entertainment industry as guest lecturers to advance the departments and UNLVs mission. This position offers the opportunity to join a team of core faculty members dedicated to continually evolving curriculum integrating training into process and performance and teaching approaches that support culturally responsive student learning and achievement. We aim to be a wellknown and respected school for screen acting and a training site for screen acting teachers.

Characteristics of a successful candidate include:

  • Professional experience in film and television as a current SAGAFTRA member.
  • A history of collaboration with film/TV industry professionals (e.g. casting directors agents and producers).
  • A strong record of teaching Acting for the Camera with one additional specialty from our screen acting curriculum.
  • Enthusiasm for shaping the future of our BFA Acting program through innovative curriculum development and collaboration.
  • Theatre knowledge is a plus but is not necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching three courses per semester 33.
  • Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses.
  • Teaching industryspecific courses such as Intro to Acting for the Camera Commercial Acting OneHour Drama Situation Comedy and SelfTaping with opportunities to design new courses in emerging technologies.
  • Mentoring students in film and media projects fostering their growth as confident mediasavvy performers.
  • Collaborating with faculty and students in UNLVs Film Department and strengthening crossdisciplinary connections.
  • Helping to develop the curriculum and expand our programs presence in social media and other emerging media industries.
  • Engaging in department service including recruitment academic advising auditions and university committees.
  • Having an ongoing commitment to a focused area of research befitting the caliber of an R1 university.

PROFILE of the COLLEGE

The department holds 12 fulltime and 7 parttime faculty and enrolls over 220 undergraduate and 30 graduate students. The distinguished faculty includes nationally and internationally recognized scholars artists and theatre practitioners with substantive links to the professional theatre and the film and television industry. Degrees offered include a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with concentrations in Stage and Screen Acting Design/Technology and Theatre Studies; a Master of Fine Arts in Design/Technology Performance and Stage Management. The department has an established Acting for the Camera program that is integrated across the performance curriculum; and a successful interdisciplinary relationship with the Department of Film including film production design screenacting and digital media. Situated in the entertainment capital of the world the department shares a dynamic relationship with the Las Vegas strip. Through collaboration exchange workshops technical and performance projects apprenticeships internships and employment the Las Vegas entertainment industry is a valuable resource enriching both faculty and students. The Nevada Conservatory Theatre (NCT) founded by the theatre faculty in 2000 and housed in the Judy Bayley Theatre on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas stands as a model for the intersection of research pedagogy and professional practice. The NCT is the applied artistic and technical producing arm of the department. Built on a professionaloriented theatre model the NCT is committed to bringing to Las Vegas the highest quality theatre. With a spotlight on the integration of professional guest artists and advanced students the NCT is committed to creating a vibrant theatre that inspires and entertains while providing a social political and ethical forum for Las Vegas artists and audiences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date):

  • Candidates must have an MFA from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or equivalent professional experience.
  • A strong record of universitylevel teaching in screen acting.
  • Experience in student mentorship
