Job Description

Hire Resolvesclient is urgently seeking the expertise of a Quantity Surveyor in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for engineering projects including labor materials and overheads.
  • Establish project budgets and track expenditure to ensure the project stays within financial limits.
  • Assist with the procurement process preparing tender documents evaluating bids and recommending contractors.
  • Review and manage engineering contracts ensuring all terms and conditions are adhered to.
  • Monitor project costs and report on financial performance identifying any potential cost overruns.
  • Measure and value engineering works including site inspections and progress assessments.
  • Provide cost advice on engineering materials techniques and methods to optimize project budgets.
  • Prepare cost forecasts and financial reports to communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Manage financial risks related to engineering projects and suggest mitigation strategies.
  • Certify payments to contractors based on work completed ensuring accuracy.
  • Negotiate contract terms and resolve any financial or contractual disputes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards regulations and safety requirements.
  • Prepare final accounts including reconciliations of variations and changes to the original scope.

Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and financial management.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation budgeting and cost control techniques.
  • Experience with tendering procurement and contract management.
  • Familiarity with engineering project practices materials and methods.
  • Knowledge of construction laws regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills for working with clients contractors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to use relevant software (e.g. MS Excel CostX or similar).
  • Strong problemsolving and risk management abilities.
  • Understanding of project management principles and the ability to work within deadlines.
  • Membership with a professional body (e.g. RICS or equivalent) may be required or preferred.
