Job Description

The Childrens Museum has an opening for an Outdoor Experience Specialist to ensure a consistently safe enjoyable and educational experience for all Museum guests in our outdoor exhibits Joy Park and Adventure Forest. Alongside the leadership of the Outdoor Experience Coordinator the Outdoor Experience Specialist is responsible for maintaining daily operations and works with a team to deliver the Museums mission through facilitation programming and naturebased play experiences. Employees of the Childrens Museum are ambassadors of the Museums mission and brand and commit to creating experiences for guests that are inspiring curious welcoming playful inventive and expert in nature.

Hours: Parttime 24 hours/week Saturday Sunday and Monday required with additional hours as needed for after hours and special events.

Rate: $21.00/ Hour (additional $1/hour for Bilingual proficiency)

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.   • With the Outdoor Experience team provide leadership and support to different areas of the Outdoor Experience including Snow Days and Adventure Forest.
  • Develop and facilitate programs and experiences for public guests within Joy Park Adventure Forest and Snow Days in alignment with the Museums mission that highlight the importance of openended explorative nature and playbased learning.
  • Train model and lead best practices and expectations in outdoor play facilitation operations and guest service for all staff in Joy Park Snow Days and Adventure Forest.
  • With the Outdoor Experience team lead the daily operations including opening and closing procedures of the space.
  • Manage the storage of outdoor consumables supplies and tools to ensure they meet educational goals.
  • Crosstrain to support other exhibit spaces as needed.
  • Develop and implement programs based off community partnership and sponsor commitments.
  • Collect and track data related to attendance and evaluation for Joy Park Adventure Forest and Snow Days.
  • Implement safety and security protocols including evacuation procedures and severe weather policies.
  • Support outdoor seasonality initiative and collaborate with the Outdoor Experience Coordinator and Teaching Kitchen staff to ensure maintenance and program development in conjunction with our garden.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluent English proficiency strong writing and public speaking skills
  • InfantChild First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to become certified
  • 1 year of experience in customer service and/or hospitality early childhood or related field
  • 1 year of experience in planning and/or facilitating outdoor and naturebased educational experiences for children and families

Desired Qualifications

  • Connection to community partnerships networks and resources in related field
  • Spanish speaking and comprehension skills strongly desired


Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; move about the outside exhibit; ascend/descent and work within the exhibit; position self; communicate with guests. Some duties must be performed at height and include ascending ladders nets and navigating uneven surfaces and other challenge course elements.
  • The employee must occasionally move or transport up to 50 pounds and spend up to 90 of each day moving around the exhibit. The employee must be comfortable performing job functions outdoors and at height.
  • The ability to observe guest capacity and monitor for safety purposes.

Work Environment:
This position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments where variable temperatures light levels crowds and moderate to very noisy sound levels are common.
