Job Summary:

Conducts fire/explosion investigations to determine the origin and cause to the standards of NFPA 921*i and NFPA 1033*ii along with fire prevention education to ensure the safety of Fort Bend County residents. Participates in planning of programs policies or objectives for workgroup and department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in fire explosion arson and insurance fraud investigations by collecting evidence photographing interviewing witnesses preparing detailed reports and surveillance used to provide expert testimony as required in the courtroom to present findings. Conducts followup investigations; works closely with other County departments fire departments and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Stays up to date on fire/explosion investigation techniques and continuously learns about new fire/explosion technologies procedures and legal updates to maintain expertise. Stay up to date with all applicable local local state and federal laws.
  • Retains compliance with NFPA 1033* maintains firearm proficiency and attends mandated continuing education classes.
  • Serves arrest warrants and search warrants.
  • Interfaces and assists local state and federal agencies with investigations.
  • Signs for and be held accountable for equipment.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED. Strong knowledge of NFPA 921 and Texas laws.
  • 2 years of jobrelated experience; Experience as a peace officer or firefighter is preferred.
  • Strong computer and verbal and written skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public other employees and elected officials.
  • Good organizational skills ability to prioritize own work and ability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines.
  • This position requires a combination of analytical skills attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in highpressure situations.
  • The Investigator must be prepared to respond to fire scenes at any time and work flexible hours as needed.
  • Special Requirements: TCFP Basic Arson investigator; TCOLE Basic Peace Officer ICS; Valid Texas Drivers License. Preferred: TCFP Basic Fire Inspector TCFP Plans Examiner TCFP Instructor I TCOLE Basic Instructor IAAI FIT NAFI CFEI.

SALARY RANGE: $36.56 $54.84 hourly based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
