40 HOURS VACATION available upon hire

Shift: Floater full time must be available to cover any shift for scheduled vacations etc. Will work 3rd shift for about a year until trainees are licensed then will work primarily 1st shift.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Performs Power Plant operation and maintenance activities.

• Operates and maintains stationary and mechanical engines including centrifugal chillers.

• Performs preventative maintenance duties for power plant systems and repairs removes and installs plumbing fittings and pipes.

• Responds to service orders determines appropriate repairs and completes maintenance reports; reviews and updates maintenance procedures.

• Maintains effective and efficient operation of the boilers for organizational heating operations maintains proper fuel levels for the boiler operation and prepares boiler for annual state inspection.

• Maintains charts and daily logs of operations; prepares reports regarding fuel and water usage.

• Assists in completing administrative duties ensures accuracy of master oncall list and recommends improvements to production methods working conditions and use of equipment.

• Utilizes Boys Town vehicle or own vehicle to complete work duties.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of a broad range of power plant practices techniques tools equipment and safety procedures.

• Mathematical skills to calculate specifications and costs and the ability to read blueprints.

• Skills in installation repair or restoration power plant machinery.

• Ability to communicate with individuals in an articulate professional manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience including 1year actual operating experience required.

• Oncall (continuously or rotationally) to provide support and may work evenings weekends and holidays required.

• Possess a valid drivers license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

• City of Omaha Third Grade Stationary Engineer License within 1 year of transfer or hire required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Vocational training preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS EQUIPMENT USAGE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Position requires moderate to heavy physical activity including heavy pulling and lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance kneeling/stooping/squatting and climbing.Work in difficult locations such as crawl spaces attics roofs and closets. Work in varying environmental conditions relating to climate and hazardous materials. Exposure to acids and other water treatment chemicals. Work may be required from a ladder scaffolding or a high lift. May work at heights of 10 feet or more.
