GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking highly motivated organized and professional applicants for a legal assistant/paralegal position with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. This person will work under the direction and supervision of the unit director to perform a variety of lawrelated tasks in support of the units efforts to operate a statewide program to investigate and prosecute Medicaid fraud false Medicaid claims and patient abuse neglect and exploitation by Medicaid providers and in Medicaid funded facilities. The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigates cases statewide and prosecutes cases in state and federal court.

The Paralegal hired for this challenging position will be the units front line for case tracking investigation and court file management and general interface with the public and expected to handle a variety of tasks both individually and in support of the Units attorney investigator and auditor with interviews document review legal drafting and presentations. This position will also assist the Unit director/attorney with department administration and office management duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Draft and disseminate legal documents and correspondence.
  • Assist Unit Investigator and Investigative Auditor with witness interviews document retrieval and review and other investigative tasks.
  • Maintain review and analyze investigation and court files including document review and management bates stamping legal research and loading documents and information into LexisNexis CaseMap.
  • Assist with legal and administrative duties for fraud investigations and prosecutions.
  • Provide trial assistance including case organization document management witness interviews and coordination preparing exhibits discovery matters and administrative tasks.
  • Assist with criminal disclosure or civil discovery including eDiscovery.
  • Maintain systems and procedures for tracking controlling and managing case files and administrative materials.
  • Serve as the first point of public contact with the public attorneys and state and federal agencies.
  • Process telephone calls faxes emails and incoming case referrals.
  • Enter case tracking data into the Access database.
  • Assist the Unit Director with federal reports and review of all incoming case referrals.
  • Maintain relationships and exchange information with other state and federal agencies.
  • Coordinate and arrange travel for MFCU team members and witnesses.
  • Maintain office equipment inventory process payments and order supplies.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:


Preference may be given to those who have coursework or experience in law and health care; eDiscovery experience.

  • FLSA: NonExempt; Hourly
  • Successful applicants are required to pass a background investigation
  • Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience.
