Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Residence Life the Residence Director will provide leadership for and have administrative oversight of 1 to 2 living areas and supervision or support of Graduate Interns. The position is a fulltime livein professional who will live on campus and serve as part of the Residence Life team. The RD will be responsible for the education and daily management of 200500 campus students and will play a crucial role in the development and administration of community initiatives; crisis management; student leadership academic success student mentorship; spiritual formation of students and staff development. They will seek to develop a residential faith community rooted in the Wesleyan faith tradition while also welcoming persons of all beliefs. The Residence Director will also assist in planning designing and implementing departmentwide initiatives and processes such as; student programming student leadership selection and training livinglearning communities diversity and how to positively impact student learning engagement and retention.

Required Education

  • Bachelors degree required Masters degree in Student Development Counseling Higher Education Administration or related field preferred.

Required Experience

  • One to two years of significant relevant experience in the area of Student Affairs in Higher Education; preferably inResidence Life.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

Residential Learning

    • Supervise or support Graduate Interns (GI) and provide direction over a designated population.
    • Oversee their direct living area Resident Advisors in the planning administration and evaluation of programs within the living areas.
    • Challenges students to initiate and develop healthy interpersonal relationships with their peers.
    • Is available to any students in the residence for discussion of concerns and problems. Appropriately refers students to other offices as needed.
    • Assists with room assignments changes and checkin/checkout process for their living area throughout the year.
    • Maintain a budget related to all expenditures and resources necessary for the living area(s) they oversee.
    • Monitors physical (health and safety) condition of living area including assisting the Facilities Management with monitoring the usage and condition of furniture. Reports known physical damage facilityrelated problems or housekeeping concerns immediately. Conducts health and safety inspections of
    • individual student rooms at least once a semester.
    • Coordinates and supports the summer housing program in partnership with one other RD.
    • Supports/initiates within the living area: efforts associated with academic support spiritual formation cultural diversity emotional wellness and life planning.
    • Maintains an attitude of discipleship and serves as a support and resource to students in their quest for spiritual growth.
    • Be available for individual student pastoral help and guidance responding to crises participating in and leading student programming and building relationships between students and the spiritual life offices.

Support Coordination/Implementation of Resident Advisor Program

    • Serve on the committee responsible for the recruitment and selection of Resident Advisors.
    • Assist with all necessary training required for Resident Advisors; including but not limited to August and January training ongoing development and training modules and milestone celebrations.
    • Conduct annual performance reviews for Resident Advisors in their span of care.
    • Provide accountability for Resident Advisors in upholding expectations pertaining to their contract.
    • Assist with planning coordinating and evaluating the RA summer training program.

Staff OnCall Responsibilities

    • Alternates with other professional staff and Graduate Interns regarding oncall availability for all campus residents taking turns covering major holidays.
    • Lives on campus in a living area to provide additional staffing presence in the living areas.

Residence Life Programs and Initiatives

    • Interface with students staff faculty and other departments regarding residential programming initiatives issues concerns philosophy and policies.
    • Assist in coordinating evaluation and assessment interface with students staff faculty and other departments regarding residential programming initiatives issues concerns philosophy and policies.
    • Serve on collaborative programming committees/efforts.
    • Coordinate the development and distribution of programming brochures and marketing materials.

Intervention & Accountability

    • Understands and can communicate the rationale for university regulations.
    • Assists confronts and intercedes in disciplinary and emergency situations as they arise in the living areas provides the appropriate written and verbal behavioral data relevant to administering guidance support and/or discipline and reports/refers to the Director of Residence Life as necessary.
    • Supports or does not openly disagree with university regulations.
    • Serves as a resource and referral support to faculty staff parents and other University constituents.

Office Operations/ Administration

    • Meets weekly with the Director of Residence Life weekly with the professional Residence Life Staff your Living Area Staff and individually to discuss policies procedures programs concerns resident problems discipline situations and personal development issues with students.
    • Maintain a presence in the Office of Residence Life.
    • Performs other duties as required by the supervisor.

  • Requires repetitive motion and sitting at a computer keyboard.

  • Ability to lift pull grasp bend and reach.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to climb stairs multiple times in a workday.

  • Computer monitor and reading.
  • Assessment of living area conditions.

Environment

  • Pleasant office comfortable temperatures.

Technologies

  • Proficient in Google Apps. Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Compensation

  • Grade 11: $68640 to $72894 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications experience and internal equity. In addition to compensation APU offers a competitive benefits package.
