Compensation
At S&C we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position in the United States can be found in the JOB INFO section below. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors including performance knowledge jobrelated skills and experience and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&Cs annual incentive plan (AIP) subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate aboutSystem Design and InnovationS&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Technology Breakthrough and Innovation team. As aManagerVacuum Interrupter Engineeringyoull be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.
The Technology & Breakthrough Innovation (T&BI) team drives the creation of new product solutions for S&Cs customers by exploiting new technologies and enabling breakthrough product development for the fastevolving intelligent power grid. This role supports the development and production of Vacuum Interrupter technologies using specialized prototyping and testing laboratories that lead to new S&C breakthrough products. As an experienced senior engineer in plasma physics you will have the opportunity to design and test devices that interrupt powerful shortcircuits collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and execute robust experimental test programs and analyze datasets to optimize practical designs that can be implemented in a manufacturing environment.
S&C Electric Companys leadership position in electric power system innovation comes from identifying specialist opportunities and creating the products required to meet them. To continue to pursue this means we are now building our capability in vacuum interruption technology so that we can create the unique interrupters we need to meet our highly specialized needs. As part of that effort we are seeking a leader for the vacuum interrupter engineering team someone who can make us selfreliant in vacuum interrupting technology and build the team to support this capability for the long term. The successful candidate will report to the VP Technology and Breakthrough Innovation and be based in Chicago.
The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Setting and achieving design objectives which account for material and process requirements as much as interrupting performance
- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders to agree objectives and set expectations
- Ensuring the design team itself follows robust design processes for example through design of experiments and extensive use of FEA
- Directing problem solving efforts during product design and production
- Creating validation programs advising on the necessary methods and instrumentation throughout
- Establishing budget objectives based on the need for people and equipment in both the short and long term.
To be eligible for this position you must at least meet these requirements:
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or physics. An advanced degree is a plus
- Experience developing products for high volume manufacture
- Solid understanding of the design and application of vacuum interrupters including the switchgear product itself
- Robust understanding of the physics of interruption and the role of electromagnetics in achieving interruption
- An aptitude for physical design and a track record of innovation in new product development
- Demonstrated experience building teams managing performance and mentoring engineers
- At least 10 years experience developing new products for application in the electric power industry
