***Applicants seeking shortterm or parttime work with the University Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructionaltype positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for fulltime employees and up to 1 calendar year for parttime employees.

Duties and Responsibilities: ** Essential Functions)

  • **Counsels students faculty and staff who report incidents of sex discrimination and genderbased violence regarding University policies and procedures programs resources and services as well as services and support available in the community ensuring University fulfillment of responsibilities and duties in compliance withHRS 304A)and federal law relating to Title IX and VAWA.
  • Conducts assessments and determinations of the victim status of individuals reporting incidents of sex discrimination and genderbased violence.
  • **Provides education and direct advocacy for victims of and reporting parties experiencing sex discrimination and genderbased violence.
  • Enhances the safety of victims of sex discrimination and genderbased violence by conducting risk assessments providing safety planning and supporting the implementation and enforcement of interim measures at the University.
  • **Assists students faculty and staff during informal and formal University procedures and processes including the preparation of necessary documents for the processing of formal complaints.
  • Makes appropriate referrals for students faculty and staff to resources services and support offered by oncampus as well as offcampus providers and conducts follow up regarding such referrals to ensure that appropriate services and support are being received.
  • Documents and maintains all case related information including referrals and followup in a manner that protects individual privacy and confidentiality.
  • Collects and reports accurate aggregate servicerelated data in a timely manner to fulfill University reporting requirements.
  • Provides online and telephone counseling services on sex discrimination and genderbased violence to neighbor island campuses as needed.
  • Assists the Director with and attends training related to advocacy services.
  • Assists the Director with the development and implementation of an advocacy best practices manual for systemwide implementation.

MinimumQualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university in counseling social work gender studies or social sciences and 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in direct advocacy and/or crisis counseling in the fields of sex discrimination and/or genderbased violence including sexual harassment stalking and domestic and dating violence; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the delivery of advocacy services for victims of sex discrimination and genderbased violence including domestic or dating violence stalking sexual and harassment demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts and terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with Title IX and VAWA compliance for educational institutions receiving federal assistance.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the delivery of advocacy services for victims of sex discrimination and genderbased violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients including students faculty and staff as well as community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with tact and discretion.
  • Demonstrated skills in advocacy advising and interpersonal counseling.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work irregular hours if necessary including nights weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to travel to neighborisland campuses during the work week as needed.
Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience providing direct advocacy and/or crisis counseling at a university college or community college campus.
  • Familiarity with a university/colleges obligations under Title IX and VAWA.
