Metro Transit is one of the countrys largest transit systems employs more than 3000 people and prior to Covid provided more than 80 million rides a year through an integrated network of buses light rail and commuter trains as well as resources for those who carpool vanpool walk or bike in the Twin Cities.

Metro Transits Engineering Departmentis responsible for the development and construction of Metro Transits public and support facilities. In the support facility area they plan design and construct improvements to the bus operations and maintenance facilities including for example replacement of existing equipment improvements to the maintenance service bays renovating operations support space including building additions and designing new facilities. Engineering and Facilities has built and maintains over 2 million square feet of office and industrial space.

How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:As a Project Coordinator/Senior Project Coordinator/Principal Project Coordinator you will be responsible forleading efforts related to natural systems sustainability and environmental systems management. The incumbent will play a key role in the development and implementation of Metro Transits Sustainability Plan (MTSP) that aligns with the Councils CAWP and the State of Minnesotas Climate Action Framework. The MTSP will stretch beyond climate action and GHG emissions to identify and incorporate meaningful site environmental outcomes into our operations. Additionally it will center the environmental justice lens outlined in CAWP and Imagine 2050 onto the agencys work.

This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. Candidates permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

Any of the following combinations of related experience (in engineering architecture planning or related field) and completed education (degree field of study inEngineering Architecture Engineering Technology Architectural Technology Construction Technology Planning or related field.


Senior Project Coordinator
Any of the following combinations of related experience (intransit or administration management research planning statistics or engineering and completed education (degree field of study inurban or transportation planning or related field

  • A high school diploma and eight 8 years of experience.
  • Associate degree and six 6 years of experience.
  • Bachelors degree and four 4 years of experience.
  • Masters degree and two 2 years of experience.

Principal Project Coordinator:
Any of the following combinations of related experience project management experience on large and complex capital projects and completed education (degree field of study inEngineering Architecture Engineering Technology Architectural Technology Construction Technology Urban or Transportation Planning or closely related field

  • A high school diploma and eight 9 years of experience.
  • Associate degree and six 7 years of experience.
  • Bachelors degree and four 5 years of experience.
  • Masters degree and two 3 years of experience.

What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
  • Experience in project management and coordination of multiple disciplines.
  • Experience and technical knowledge in the preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Experience in leading and facilitating meetings with very complex and detailed materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in cultural competence and working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
What knowledge skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job.
  • Skilled in project management: including developing and leading effective project teams problem solving facilitating scheduling presenting reports and contract administration.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel Power Point Teams and Notebook applications is desired as is familiarity with Outlook.
  • Skilled communicator oral written and interpersonal proficiency a must. Ability to edit and format documents written by multiple authors into a cohesive and smooth flowing product.
  • Demonstrable experience inresearching sustainability and climate related issues and topics ability to assess potential impacts evaluating alternatives and formally or informally making recommendations.
  • Ability to provide timely and accurate client services to interagency stakeholders the public and other agencies.

What your work environment would be:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office work environment however there will be some travel from primary work site to other sites and to Metro Transit facilities and occasionally out of state. At times incumbent in this position will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions near moving parts and equipment fumes and airborne particles and electrical items.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only) and a background check which verifies education employment and criminal history. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a casebycase basis based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.

If you are already an employee of the Metropolitan Council you must pass a drug test (if moving from a nonsafety sensitive position to a safety sensitive position) and criminal background check if the job youre applying for is safety sensitive is a supervisory or management job is in the Finance Information Services Audit or Human Resources departments or has access to financial records files/databases cash vouchers or transit fare cards.
