Position Summary
This position facilitates the daytoday operations and longterm viability of Spelman Colleges networks telecommunications solutions and services. Ensures accurate monitoring and reporting of system performance related to network operations equipment (Servers Switches Routers UPSs Generators and other Management/Administration Systems). This position will coordinate with thirdparty solutions/service providers to deliver reliable available and secure enterprise services. As a member of the STS division this position strives to ensure consistency in its communication actions strategic focus digitalization and innovation. This position is also responsible for supporting the mission of Spelman College by delivering technology services solutions and guidance to Spelman faculty staff students and the community in a professional exemplary serviceoriented collaborative manner.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Works with other Infrastructure Services personnel to administer and manage Spelman Colleges infrastructure and operations. Configures installs monitors and maintains the College LANs WANs and wireless networks including routers firewalls switches UPSs and other hardware. Collaborates with executive management and department leaders to assess near and longterm network capacity needs. Creates and maintains network configuration mapping processes and service records documentation. Develops implements and maintains policies procedures and associated training plans for network administration usage and disaster recovery. Maintains awareness and knowledge of industry/vendor technology and trends to ensure optimal use and value of the LAN / WAN resources. Monitors network performance and troubleshoots problem areas as needed. Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics and reports. Available for oncall and/or emergency response and support as needed.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to: talk and hear stand walk sit use hands to operate computers and to move items reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally be required to: stoop climb kneel and lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. The specific vision requirements of this position include the ability to adjust focus.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems/Technology related field and a minimum of 24 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience in network engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience Proven experience and success with LAN WAN WLAN and WWAN design and implementation. Proven experience with network capacity planning network security principles and general network management best practices. Strong analytical organizational and problemsolving skills. Desire and ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment with faculty staff and students to achieve a common goal. Strong handson technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems including Windows and Linux. Knowledge of telephony systems including Cisco Call Manager Unity and UCCX . Working technical knowledge of current network hardware protocols and Internet standards including TCP /IP networking (IPv4/IPv6 DNS and DHCP . Excellent hardware troubleshooting skills including Cisco networking equipment Extensive application support experience with Cisco ISE Cisco Meraki and CheckPoint Firewall software. Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy. Ability to balance competing short and longterm goals in alignment with the larger areas direction and objectives.
