Assistant Professor Clinician (Tenure)/ DOQ Health Outcomes University of Utah Health HMHI Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine Psychiatry Huntsman Mental Health Institute and the Department of Psychiatry Child Psychiatry Division at the University of Utah Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine seeks to hire a faculty member in the area of health outcomes for those vulnerable to selfinflicted injury SII borderline personality disorder BPD and suicide. Successful candidates will play an important investigative role in the Department of Psychiatry. They will be part of a supportive team and their faculty appointment and rank will be based on their academic experience and professional accomplishments. The University of Utah is located in the capital city Salt Lake City one of the most beautiful cities in the world surrounded by mountains with worldclass skiing hiking rock climbing and mountain biking. The area has received international recognition for its light rail system downtown library system and increasing diversity. Our Health System is the major referral center for a 5state region. Qualifications: Qualified candidates should be licensed as a psychologist in the State of Utah and hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a minimum of three years of academic research experience in the neurobiological basis and treatment of mood disorders and selfharm behaviors in adolescents and clinical experience providing psychological risk assessments for children adolescents and young adults. Demonstrated evidence of scientific productivity in the form of published manuscripts in peerreviewed journals is also required. Candidates should have experience with external funding administrative duties and working with mentees/trainees in an educational setting. Responsibilities: Clinical Care: Ensure maintenance of clinical licensure to guarantee adequate continuing education for ongoing risk assessment and clinical decision making with vulnerable populations to support high impact translational research. Investigation: Develop and maintain a high impact translational research program focused on improving health outcomes for those vulnerable to selfinflicted injury SII borderline personality disorder BPD and suicide; Develop long term strategies for research projects in the intergenerational transmission of psychopathology phenotype development and clinical integration and support for translational efforts; Plan and conduct experiments and clinical trials consistently and efficiently; Additional effort to develop and improve strategies for prospectively identifying biological and behavioral risk for SII BPD and suicide in order to aid in early identification and prevention; Conduct experimental research and clinical trials to examine intervention mechanisms for SII BPD and suicide in order to improve prevention and treatment efficacy; Evaluate experimental results analysis and interpretation of data; Write edit and review scientific abstracts and manuscripts for publication in peerreviewed journals. Disseminate research findings via conference presentations and present data for seminars and reports to interdisciplinary audiences; Pursue funding for research projects by writing grants to national foundations and to national institutes like the NIMH / NIH private foundations like BBRF as well as local funding options such as University of Utah grants. Education: Participate in Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine medical school residency and fellowship training programs and for educational content in the themes of participating in and interpreting scientific research research methods and clinical management of individuals at high risk for suicide; Supervise and assist undergraduates or other lab members with experiments data analysis and presentations; Participate in mentoring associated with departmental R25 proposals. Administration/Service: Complete regular timely reviews of salary and research project budgets; Assist with maintaining appropriate permissions for the research (e.g. IRB RGE Health Department regulations) and appropriate lab and ethical training of research staff and students; Provide administrative service to the Department of Psychiatry the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine HMHI and the health system including peer review and participation on committees; Serve within the department as a member of the Department Advisory Committee and other committees agreed upon with the Chair/ CEO ; Report to and be reviewed annually by the Vice Chair of Research as part of School of Medicine faculty appointment. The percentage of effort spent in education investigation and administrative activities will be negotiated annually. Specific assignments will be coordinated through the Vice Chair of Research.
