This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement to include a partially remote work location consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Reporting to the Director of Organizational Development and Library Human Resources the primary purpose of the HR Specialist is to oversee the recruitment hiring and retention of the Libraries temporary and student employees as well as to assist in the development and implementation of programs trainings and initiatives that serve the staff and organizational development needs for the University Libraries. The HR Specialist will be deeply involved in facilitating onboarding and orientation processes for new employees to the University Libraries. This position will facilitate the development and administration of several Library programs and initiatives including the Libraries new employee buddy and mentorship program staff wellbeing initiatives and staffwide learning opportunities. This position will help maintain EHRA NF appointment review and promotion procedures (that are similar to tenure review processes). The HR Specialist is an integral member of the University Libraries HR team. They participate in collaborative team decisionmaking processes and support other HR team members as needed to provide accurate and seamless customer service across the organization. As such this position will actively assist as needed in search committee processes and procedures for EHRA NF SHRA and temporary staff across the Libraries eight organizational divisions. The HR Specialist will help to organize and maintain an active recruitment workflow and help to create a production schedule for job searches. The HR Specialist will be an effective communicator with the ability to establish strong professional relationships with various groups of people. They will resolve problems and situations that arise and work with the Universitys Office of Human Resources OHR to obtain viable and efficient solutions. This position will work closely with the University Libraries HR Office to ensure HR services are delivered in accordance with policies and appropriate procedures for the Libraries as a unified organization and in accordance with state and University policies. They will collaborate with the University Libraries Fiscal Services department on budgetary and funding policies and procedures as they relate to HR practices.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
* Demonstrated human resources experience including client consultation recruitment and hiring. * Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. * Attention to detail and organization professionalism and an ability to adapt easily follow through complete and resolve issues. * Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations (e.g. FLSA FMLA ADA . * Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret policy. * Demonstrated Can Do customer service mentality. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to maintain records with great accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
* Previous Human Resources experience in a University setting. * Experience with PeopleAdmin ConnectCarolina/PeopleSoft LawLogix TIM InfoPorte and GradStar.
