POSITION

The Department of English Comparative Lit. and Linguistics at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Instructional Student Assistant Pool. Not all applicants will be hired. Successful applicants will be employed as ISAs working as writing tutors in the University Writing Center. Select ISAs will be assigned to work as embedded writing tutors in sections of ENGL 101P Preparatory College Writing. This is a parttime position not to exceed 20 hours a week.

We welcome applications from current CSUF graduate students in the English department to tutor in the following subject areas:

• English Writing

This is a pool of Instructional Student Assistant for the department to draw on as necessary.

APPOINTMENTS FROM THE POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MAY BE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT ON VERY SHORT NOTICE.

JOB SUMMARY

• Under the supervision of appropriate Writing Center staff Tutors will be responsible for tutoring students in the writing process including but not limited to collaborating with students on writing development organization argument and evidence.
• ISAs may be assigned to sections of ENGL 101P in which they will carry out tutoring duties in a direct instructionalsupport capacity in the classroom under the direct supervision of the instructor of record of that course as well as the indirect supervision of appropriate Writing Center staff.
• ISAs will be scheduled for no more than 20 hours of work per week.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a currently enrolled student in good standing at CSUF. Students must be either a) undergraduates who have attained at least Junior standing or b) graduate students. A BA (i.e. BA) degree in English or related field or equivalent experience.
• Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students including firstgeneration college students
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills the ability to relate well to others within an academic environment a willingness to learn and the ability to assist students in the writing process.
• Must have successfully completed ENGL 402/402S Theories of Response to Written Communication with a grade of B or better as minimum qualification for employment or have equivalent academic or professional experience.
• ISAs agree to work under the supervision of the Writing Center Director Writing Center Supervisor and if applicable a faculty member teaching ENGL 101P.
• Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

Recommendation forms must to be filled out by faculty and submitted by them directlythat is separate from the above materialsto the Department of English Comparative Literature and Linguistics in GH 323.

Following careful review of all application materials qualified applicants will be scheduled for an interview near the end of the Fall semester. Successful applicants will begin work in the Spring semester. Applicants are required to meet the Unit 11 Minimum Classification and Qualification Standards. The department may request additional materials from applicants. Hiring is dependent on department needs.

COMPENSATION

All Instructional Student Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers. Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification Range: $17.01 $22.70 per hour
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualification not to exceed $18.00

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 revised July 21 2017 as a condition of employment.

Please note that continued employment is contingent upon your successful completion of a background screening as required under CSU policy. Instructional Student Assistants are rehired at CSUF after a break in service of 12 or more months who have not had a CSUF background check within the past 12 months will be subject to a new background check; rehire is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the new background check.
