Job Description

Department Overview

The END Technologist 1 prepares patients and conducts routine END procedures in the unit; collects data pertinent to the interpretation of test results and assists senior technologists or medical staff with complex recordings under indirect supervision.

The END Technologist 1 is an entry to midlevel position in the neurodiagnostic unit or department. TheEND Technologist 1 performs procedures according to facility policy and procedures. The ENDTechnologist 1 can perform test set up electrode application and maintain patient safety during clinicallysignificant events and other related duties. Communication skills are essential for this position.

Function/Duties of Position

Patient Preparation

  • Tech documents a comprehensive patient history including Neurological symptoms and medications. Measures and accurately applies electrodes in less than 30mins and with appropriate impedance of <5kohms. Tech is able to use multiple electrode application techniques; observes records and attempts to eliminate artifact and body movements that can affect recording of cerebral activity and prepares a technical report. Learns and applies basic EMG/NCS waveform recognition relevant medical terminology anatomy physiology infection control current HIPAA practices and contraindications for activation procedures. This tech is occasionally paired with senior techs to learn and perform more complex recordings in the clinical setting.

EMG/NCS Examinations

  • This tech performs routine and longterm EMG/NCS procedures under indirect supervision and in accordance with the standards and protocols of the department. Implements alternative methods or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. Observes and records conditions and reactions of patients during exam; notes extraneous conditions which may affect recording; operates equipment; notes body movements for benefit of interpretation by neurologist

Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintains clean testing equipment maintainsproper sanitization of supplies and surrounding area and reportsequipment malfunctions in writing to our engineer.

Miscellaneous

  • Performs tests for research purposes; prepares reports ofrecordings for interpretation by physician; edits types archives andstores files in accordance to lab policy. Informs lead tech when suppliesand equipment need to be reordered. This technologist is able tocommunicate appropriately and effectively with the patient to convey thepurpose of the EMG/NCS and answer questions surrounding the test.Understands why and how to troubleshoot common EMG/NCS artifactsand protocols with a conscious effort to maintain safety standards.

Customer Satisfaction

  • Follows OHSUs customer service philosophyand follows AIDET forms of communication. Works to understand andcorrect the most common customer service complaints. Followscustomer service satisfaction scores and helps the department to achievethe highest level scores possible by working to become a leader incustomer service.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent with 1year experience working in a Neurodiagnostic patient care environment OR
  • student enrolled at least 6 months in ABRET recognized program and 6 months experience working in a patient care environment OR
  • Bachelors degree in related field.
  • Experience working in a patient care environment.
  • Entry level PC or Microsoft Windows knowledge.
  • BLS Certification
  • Compliance with Code of Conduct Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies procedures and agreements related to position department or OHSU as a whole

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of Experience in Pediatric and Adult EMG long term monitoring and EMU.
  • R.EEG.T/CLTM

Additional Details

Pay Range: $32.73 $44.27 per hour

  • HRC DCH and KPV locations on campus. Possible exposure to human tissue/fluids and direct patient contact.
  • Ability to carry and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit for up to 8 continuous hours a day. Some standing bending or leaning forward may be needed
