Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) Division of Business and Finance (DBF) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accountant IV to join our team. This critical role serves as a key financial control function providing independent oversight complex financial analysis and strategic decision support to agency and state leadership. As a Accountant IV you will be responsible for the preparation review and presentation of financial statements and managerial reports ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and state financial policies. You will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of financial data through meticulous reconciliation of state accounting records preparation of adjusting journal entries and independent review of transactions. With approval authority for state financial system (AZ360FIN) transactions you will ensure compliance with statutory requirements across Accounts Payable Accounts Receivable transfers and journal vouchers. This position also supports the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and Single Audit compliance demanding a strong ability to analyze and validate financial statements. You will collaborate closely with division and agency leadership providing expert financial guidance and interpretation of financial data to drive informed decisionmaking and operational efficiency. Job Duties:
  • Financial Statement Preparation & Reporting Prepares and presents financial statements reports and reconciliations in accordance with GAAP for division agency and state management. Ensures financial reporting complies with statutory requirements and informs key decisionmaking processes
  • ACFR and Single Audit Compliance Prepares closing package information for the ACFR validates financial data and ensures compliance with federal and state auditing standards
  • Financial Analysis & Advisory Role Conducts specialized financial analysis and reporting for agency leadership providing insights to optimize operations and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Transaction Review & Approval Reviews approves and processes complex accounting transactions including journal vouchers adjusting entries and state system reconciliations in AZ360 ensuring compliance with financial policies
  • Management Consultation & Collaboration Engages with agency leadership to interpret financial statements advise on operational performance and recommend improvements to financial processes
Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in governmental accounting and financial reporting
  • State and federal financial regulations including those governing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and Single Audit compliance
  • Arizona Financial Information System (AZ360FIN) or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial systems used for state accounting transactions
  • Fund accounting principles financial statement preparation and complex financial reconciliations

Skills in:

  • Financial analysis and interpretation of large data sets to support highlevel decisionmaking
  • Preparing and reconciling complex financial reports and statements in compliance with accounting standards and policies
  • Using financial systems and tools (such as AZ360FIN Excel and business intelligence reporting systems) for financial reporting and reconciliation
  • Reviewing and approving complex financial transactions ensuring accuracy compliance and proper authorization
  • Identifying and resolving financial discrepancies in accounting records and making corrections as needed

Ability to:

  • Analyze interpret and apply accounting principles to ensure financial data accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements
  • Perform independent reviews of financial transactions to maintain accountability and transparency in state financial management
  • Work collaboratively with management and stakeholders to enhance financial processes and decisionmaking
  • Exercise sound judgment and problemsolving skills when analyzing financial data and recommending adjustments
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks
Selective Preference(s):
  • Experience with government accounting is preferred
  • Advanced degree in accounting or finance is preferred
PreEmployment Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in accounting or a closely related field required
  • One year experience as an Accountant II or III or equivalent is required
  • Background and reference check including a criminal records verification
