Job Summary
The FH Orthopedic and Surgical Programs Coordinator will assume responsibility for ensuring the provision of quality patient care services for orthopedic and surgical patients. Service lines include but not be limited to: orthopedics general surgery bariatrics GI urology breast plastics and ENT. Duties include participating in all aspects of the various accreditation programs including patient data and information management as well as assisting with the strategic direction of the programs. The Orthopedic and Surgical Program Coordinator develops and implements patient staff and physician education; works to increase patient volume and profitability of the program; and ensures a coordinated patient progression from preadmission to discharge and postsurgical care. Other duties include assisting with administrative functions and partnering with physicians and other clinicians on the development & implementation of patient care protocols and clinical pathways updating patient policies and procedures participating in continuous quality improvement activities and ensuring compliance with external regulatory agencies. Functions within the limits of the State and Federal licensing regulatory bodies and hospital policies.

Essential Functions:
Participates with directors managers teams and committees as needed for ongoing support growth and development of the orthopedic and surgical programs.
Leads and facilitates interdisciplinary teams for ongoing review/revision of pathways processes order sets and education material
Provides monthly updates regarding the program status to staff and leadership.
Develops and presents preoperative education classes discharge classes and community outreach session.
Instructs and educates patient and families during hospital stay.
Manages and maintains patient education materials.
Collects and analyzes data for the program including but not limited to data required for core measures and maintenance/achievement of Center of Excellence designation.
Presents data outcomes to staff and physicians as appropriate.
Develops plans and implements strategies to increase the program volumes.
Meet as appropriate with physician offices to gather ideas for program expansion
Present community education outreach lectures to the general population to increase awareness of the program services and associated surgeons.
Develops budget requests and financial proformas for program growth in collaboration with Director. Consults with appropriate departments for feedback.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates strong clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills to evaluate appropriateness of clinical practice including diagnosis treatment of the surgical patients.
Possesses high degree of prioritization skills. Able to effectively organize time to accomplish daily responsibilities
Use good judgment in interacting with physicians nurses departments and leaders while identifying quality of care issues.
Demonstrates the ability to apply creative problem solving identify errors of omission and utilize resources effectively.
Possesses competent knowledge of computer software and able to do data entry from PC database applications.
Possesses basic knowledge of medical records coding for Diagnosis Related Group and ICD9 system and able to retrieve data from patient information
