Position Function:
This position supports the mission of the Gulf Coast Community Design Studio including the initiation and management of communityengaged design and planning related projects. This position serves as mentor to interns and emerging professionals seeking licensure.

Department Profile:
The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio (GCCDS) was established on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005 to work in communities impacted by Hurricane Katrina and has evolved from disaster recovery to addressing longterm issues of community resilience. Located in Gulfport the GCCDS is a professional outreach arm of Mississippi State University College of Architecture Art and Design and operates with a fulltime staff of architects landscape architects and planners always working in close collaboration with multiple nonprofit municipal and professional partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Promotes collaboration across disciplines within the open studio setting.
2. Develops and strengthens collaborative relationships with multiple organizations and communities to address social and environmental needs.
3. Collaborates with community partners to identify potential projects and create grant proposals.
4. Manages design and/or planning projects including supervising the work of other designers coordinating with project partners and producing deliverables and reports as required by the project.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Hold a professional degree from an accredited university in either Architecture Landscape Architecture or Urban and Regional Planning.
2. Show a commitment to publicinterest planning and design.
3. Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in public or private practice.
4. Architecture and landscape architecture candidates hold a professional license in their profession.
5. Planning professionals have a minimum of 3 years experience in environmental and/or community planning and are skilled in ArcGIS Pro.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in communityengaged planning and/or design.
2. For architecture and landscape architecture candidates experience in design build projects.
3. Experience in identifying funding opportunities proposal development and grant writing.
4. Experience working with underserved and marginalized communities.
5. Ability to manage projects and partnerships across larger geographies through the use of technology.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
2. Excellent organization and planning skills.
3. Ability to develop plan and implement short and longrange goals.
4. Designers:
a. Excellent hand and digital graphics production.
b. Experienced in site Inventory and analysis.
c. Accomplished in concept development through construction documentation bid
process and construction administration.
5. Planners:
a. Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro.
b. Excellent data analysis and data visualization skills and ability to integrate data into
decisionmaking while leveraging current best practices.
c. Ability to plan and facilitate creative community engagement opportunities as part of
plan development.
d. Skilled in research and professional writing.
e. Ability to work with design team to create outreach materials.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
