Job Description

Position Title:

OnCall Academic Intern

A. POSITION PURPOSE

Academic interns for academic services will work with the Athletics Academic and Student Services staff to develop academic support plans for individual studentathletes on their respective caseloads while gaining handson experience with academic advising eligibility and NCAA rules and regulations. Additionally they will assist with student support services in the areas of StudentAthlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) career services new studentathlete onboarding and Diversity Equity Inclusion Justice Belonging (DEIJB).

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Academic Mentoring

  • In collaboration with the academic services staff identifying academic concerns of specific studentathletes.

  • Incorporating learning strategies and learning tools offered by the academic services unit to meet the needs of individual studentathletes.

  • Continuing monitoring and assessing of studentathlete academic progress.

  • Promoting and fostering academic integrity and accountability.

  • Promoting and fostering a culture of compliance with NCAA and University rules.

  • Promoting and fostering appropriate communication skills.

  • Promoting and encouraging the use of University resources (i.e. Drahmann HUB and Career Services).

  • Encouraging personal reflection and growth.

  • Assisting studentathletes in academic goal setting and achievement.

  • Documenting academic progress in weekly and quarterly individual reports.

2. Assist in Academic Advising

  • Assist academic services staff in helping studentathletes navigate Workday in order to search for classes and determine appropriate courses to meet degree requirements.

  • Use quarter calendars and weekly trackers to help studentathletes develop time management skills.

  • Assist with eligibility tracking. Interns will gain an understanding of NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to continuing eligibility requirements. Interns will assist the academic services staff and compliance unit with tasks that relate to continuing eligibility.

3. Student Services

  • Assist with new first year students onboarding and programming including Bronco Bridge.

  • Assist with studentathlete leadership and engagement through the StudentAthlete Advisory Committee.

  • Assist with studentathlete events and awards.

  • Assist with career services.

  • Assist with Diversity Equity Inclusion Justice Belonging athletics initiatives.

  • Assist with other student services and development projects as assigned.

4. Participation

  • Intern will participate in FERPA and Confidentiality Training upon the start of the internship program.

  • Intern will learn the department University and NCAA policies as they pertain to rules and regulations academic integrity compliance and confidentiality.

  • Participate in monthly Professional Development Learning Sessions that will be sponsored by the Academic Services Unit.

  • Maintain an appropriate schedule in collaboration with his/her supervisor.

  • Maintain a regular schedule of academic meetings with their caseload of studentathletes.

  • Make recommendation based on studentathlete assessment and academic progress.

  • Participate in event planning for annual events such as faculty appreciation nights studentathlete etiquette dinner and more.

E. QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge skills abilities education and experience required or preferred.

This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.

  • Experience working with Google docs preferred.

  • Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel).

  • Attention to detail.

3. Abilities

  • Professional positive and serviceoriented approach.

4. Education

  • Bachelors Degree

5. Years of Experience

  • Interest in NCAA Academic Services
