Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

The Extension Coordinator supports Washington State Universitys (WSU) activities under the Washington Soil Health Initiative (WaSHI) including assisting the faculty lead in communications and outreach efforts annual reporting coordinating outreach and advisory events supporting research activities and other duties as assigned. WSUs WaSHI responsibilities are housed within the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources CSANR. WaSHI is a multiagency (Washington (WA) State Conservation Commission and WA State Department of AgricultureWSU effort that seeks to empower landowners to identify soil health issues on their lands research solutions to these issues and improve the health of Washington soils. This position will coordinate withCSANRprogram faculty and staff WaSHI Administrative Team WaSHI Advisory Team researchers within the LongTerm Agroecological Research and Extension LTARE network as well as with university administration financial entities and agency partners.The location of the position is negotiable. Remote/hybrid opportunities with flexible scheduling may be available.

WaSHI Communications and Outreach (Outputs) 35

  • Lead the communication efforts of WaSHI to diverse audiences by working with researchers and extension personnel atWSU across WaSHIs agencies and stakeholders.

  • Develop new content manage existing content and improve the web presence of WaSHI utilizing innovative tools to highlight the work of WaSHI such asLTAREresearch and outreach efforts and resources for landowners.

  • Lead in the production development research writing editing and proofreading of original content including content from contributors for quarterly blog posts and outreach newsletters for WaSHI.

  • Lead in the translation of written materials into visual content to diversify digital outputs to reach diverse audiences.

  • Initiate the effort to summarize results withLTARE Principal Investigators PIs) for annual and periodic reporting. Examples of outputs may include digital communication materials physical inperson signage promotions for events etc. and provide content expertise if necessary.

  • Lead the outreach efforts for WaSHI on social media platforms (X Instagram Facebook LinkedIn) within and outside ofWSUto promote WaSHIs efforts outputs and impacts driving increased engagement and follower growth.

  • Lead and support virtual educational efforts as necessary.

Educational and Advisory Events 25

  • Lead the planning of and of WaSHI outreach events. WaSHI hosts an annual soil health conference and the Extension Coordinator Senior will recruit organizers facilitate planning meetings communicate with speakers and orchestrate inperson and virtual access points.

  • Lead the coordination of outreach efforts for the LTAREs (e.g. field tours) by working withLTAREPIs and staff.

  • Coordinate the biannual meeting with the WaSHI Advisory Team members and agency partners.

Document WaSHI Outcomes and Impacts 25

  • Lead the deployment of data evaluation tools to assess the impact of formal and informal WaSHI outreach efforts including the impact of theLTAREnetwork.

  • Track and report program metrics to demonstrate progress and impacts for WaSHI.

  • Develop impact statements for WaSHI by working with staffLTAREPIs and evaluation specialists atWSU.

  • Prioritize communication strategies based on evaluation feedback and deploy improved strategies as needed.

Administrative 10

  • Lead annual reporting efforts documenting the outputs outcomes and impacts of WaSHI and the LTAREs by working withLTAREPIs.

  • Perform the annual reporting required for Extension Coordinators atWSU.

Other Duties 5

  • Other duties include professional development committee service and other periodic projects.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in a relevant extension program discipline and three 3 years of related program experience. A Masters degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a yearforyear basis.

  • Must be able and willing to travel with reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).

  • Must have or be able to obtain by time of hire a valid drivers license and meet requirements in accordance withSPPM 7.10and departmental driving standards.

This is a full time 100 FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary:

$4224.37 $6336.56 Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with
RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.
