The fundamental reason the classification exists is toenforce the International Building Codes and City Ordinances with regard toresidential and commercial construction. The work responsibilities include inspectingresidential and commercial construction; inspecting residential and commercialconstruction for the purpose of compliance with the International Plumbing Codeand the International Fuel Gas Code; inspecting existing residential andcommercial buildings and facilities; investigating complaints regardingillegal/unlawful construction activities unapproved occupancy/use of existingbuildings and facilities and initiates legal actions; reporting inspectionsresults. General supervision is receivedfrom the Chief Plumbing Inspector.
Mustbe certified or obtain certification within one 1 year of employment as aPlumbing Inspector (Commercial) through a recognized certification program incompliance with the International Code Council; and within two 2 years must becertified as a Fuel Gas Inspector (Commercial).Must have and maintain a valid Alabama drivers license and insurabledriving record as needed to operate a city vehicle in the inspection ofcommercial and residential buildings and sites under construction.
