New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint however we may go slightly higher based on experience internal equity and market.

Job Summary

The City of Bellevue Parks & Community Services (PCS) Outdoor Recreation Intern will work within the TRACKS Teaching Recreation Adventure Competency Knowledge Stewardship) outdoor recreation program at outdoor locations and at Bellevue City Hall. The mission of the TRACKS program is to encourage participation in outdoor activities; connect residents to nature and cultivate individual and community stewardship.

This position will assist in the development implementation and facilitation of community recreation based outdoor activities. Interns will gain valuable handson experiences and insight into how outdoor community recreation activities and programming can include and support all who choose to participate. Specific programs within the department that this position will gain experience include: A variety of hiking programs with options for youth families adults and older adults. Large focus of the internship will be youth mountain biking hiking and adventure summer camp programs and preparation for fall programming.

Internship Requirement:Must be student enrolled in college or a graduate program.

Schedule: This is a paid position that works up to 30 hours per week during Spring Semester/Quarter and holidays with the opportunity to work during the summer as part of the outdoor day camp program. The maximum length of the internship is six 6 months.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create an outreach plan to promote community outdoor recreation programs in a diverse Bellevue community.
  • Work alongside the Program Coordinator to plan and implement outdoor recreation programs and summer camps.
  • Set up and facilitate outdoor recreation trips and outings.
  • Maintain and prepare gear for programs.
  • Work with staff and community partners to develop and lead Tracks summer camp programs.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • Works under the general supervision of the TRACKS program coordinator.
  • No formal supervisory responsibilities.
  • May lead a project or program as assigned.

Education Experience and Other Requirements

  • Must be enrolled and attending a two or fouryear college or university or graduated from a fouryear college or university and enrolled in a graduate program.
  • A students targeted degree field of interest or graduate training should relate to the project or assignment the student is responsible for.
  • Previous work experience preferred.
  • Experience using the PC including word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Database experience preferred.

Definition of a Student Intern:

  • Must be enrolled in a bona fide education program. Full time employees taking evening classes those enrolled in one course or those going to school periodically are not considered student interns.
  • During the academic year must be scheduled to work 20 hours or fewer per week.
  • During special situations (i.e. specific internship programs through school) or during school breaks can be scheduled to work more than 20 hours up to full time if appropriate.
  • Must be terminated as a student intern when no longer associated with an education program.
  • Atwill for the duration of the student intern status.
