Job Description:
The Multimodal Engineer will serve as the Bureau of Plannings technical expert on multimodal project planning and scoping. This position will work closely with staff in the Freight and Business Logistics Division as well as the Active Transportation Planner and staff in the Transit Planning and Administration Unit to assist with scoping nonhighway projects. The Multimodal Engineer will also work to identify and communicate projects risks and constraints estimate costs of projects and assist in the handoff of multimodal projects to staff in the Bureaus of Project Development and Maintenance and Operations.
The Multimodal Engineer will also identify design and implement asset management protocols for all multimodal capital assets and produce detailed benefit/cost analyses and life cycle cost analyses of improvement strategies to maximize benefits of capital assets.
Additionally the Multimodal Engineer will negotiate and execute formal agreements with local communities and relevant partners regarding project parameters and cost sharing; oversee and direct studies designed to analyze transportation modes systems and facilities; and assess transportation needs and deficiencies; consult with and advise state and federal agencies local and regional planning groups municipalities special interest groups and the public on transportation related policies and projects to provide information and/or gather input from interested parties; and work collaboratively with internal and external personnel to manage deadlines and write and edit grant applications that support the mission and goals of the Department.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence ofthe following experience:
Licensure as a Professional Engineer plus two 2 years of work experience beyond such licensure which demonstrates the performance of significantly complex engineering science competency in evaluating risk and applying sound engineering judgement as it applies to planning project development and/or maintenance of public works structures and facilities.
Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).
Licensure as a Professional Engineer as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
