Job Description Summary
The rapidly growing Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering at Chapman University invites applications for a Research Associate position in the areas of quantum optics and quantum information science. Chapman University is a nationally ranked R2 Carnegie Classified private institution offering traditional undergraduate and graduate programs in the heart of Orange County one of Southern Californias most diverse and vibrant regions. The 11 schools and colleges of Chapman including Fowler School of Engineering offer 65 bachelors 53 master and six doctoral programs along with 60 minors and 17 integrated and bridge programs. Opened in the fall of 2019 the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering offers undergraduate degree programs in Computer Science Computer Engineering Data Science Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering along with a new graduate program a MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The School also offers several interdisciplinary minors and themed inquiry programs which allow students from across other Chapman programs to explore engineering. Fowler Engineering is committed to contributing solutions to global challenges and to building truly inclusive and equitable faculty staff and student experiences. A key component of that mission is the recruitment and support of faculty staff and students from the broadest possible set of backgrounds and experiences. The newly opened Swenson Family Hall of Engineering provides stateoftheart facilities for teaching and research that allow for experiences that are truly without boundaries. Position Description The Research Associate position is available immediately for highly motivated individuals to join Dr. Nooshin Estakhris research group. Dr. Estakhris research interests focus on two main themes: 1 investigating new phenomena and their physical dynamics in the scattering of classical and quantum fields from complex disordered structures and their significance in the realm of quantum optics; as well as 2 new and timely topics in the area of quantum information science which includes proposing and testing quantum control protocols and techniques for solidstate quantum processors particularly quantum dot spinbased structures. The Research Associate will conduct independent research in the areas of quantum optics and quantum information science. The research will include: Performing analytical modeling and numerical simulations on complex disordered nanophotonic structures Investigating new phenomena and their physical dynamics in the scattering of classical and quantum fields from complex disordered structures and their significance in the realm of quantum optics Analyzing collected data from numerical simulations and experimental measurements Devising and implementing appropriate measurement techniques (if applicable) Working on quantum control techniques and gate designs (includes programming) for spinbased quantum processors for quantum computing Publishing results in scientific journals and presenting results at national and/or international conferences Working alongside principal investigator to mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers. Projects will be related to ongoing research and expanding beyond those ideas will be the primary goal. This is an exempt Academic Professional position. This position is eligible for participation in our health and welfare benefits supplemental retirement plan accrued sick time vacation and Holiday pay.

Responsibilities
Conduct independent research related to the supervisors principal research. Duties include but are not limited to: Performing analytical computational and experimental research duties. Devising new methods for the study of disordered media in both classical and quantum regimes and investigating new phenomena and their physical dynamics. Analyzing collected data from numerical simulations and experimental measurements. Working on quantum control techniques. Data dissemination: publishing and presenting results in scientific journals and conferences. Mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers. Support Principal Investigator with lab management Ensure the laboratory is well equipped with all necessary tools and software to conduct research. Understand and practice data management and lab safety protocols.

Required Qualifications
A doctoral degree in electrical engineering physics applied physics or related fields. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability and willingness to engage graduate and undergraduate students in research. Must work well with students. Prior research experience. Ability to perform duties independently and with little direction. Ability to collaborate with Principal Investigator and other researchers. Ability to conduct simulations and experiments in a timely manner and accurately record data. Strong analytical and computational skills and strong problemsolving skills
