Position Summary
Indiana Universitys Department of English invites applications for the Culbertson Chair of Writing. The appointment will be made at the rank of advanced Associate or Full Professor. The ideal candidate will bring a capacious conception of writing into a department dedicated to the teaching production and study of writing in its many forms. As an intellectual leader in the department the ideal candidate will spearhead innovative collaborative research initiatives across the departments three programs in rhetoric literature and creative writing. The Culbertson Chair provides leadership in undergraduate writing and writing instruction across the English curriculum and the Bloomington campus supports our awardwinning programs in composition trains doctoral students and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in their area(s) of interest. We seek a candidate who could contribute to any of our existing departmental strengths in gender and sexuality in ethnic cultural or postcolonial studies and in environmental humanities or who would help us to develop additional strengths in disability studies performance studies indigenous studies or African American studies. Regardless of specialty the successful candidate will demonstrate strong commitments to diversity equity and inclusion and demonstratepedagogically and in printthe ways in which writing is a socially and culturally inclusive practice that promotes a more just humane and equitable future world. A doctoral degree in English including Rhetoric and Composition Writing Studies or a related field is required. The appointment is effective starting in Fall 2022. The teaching load in the department is typically 22 on a semester system. Review of applications will begin November 1 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.
