The primary purpose of the Workers Comp Program Assistant (HR Technician II) position is to assist in administering the Workers Compensation Program for the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) providing the highestlevel guidance for the program which includes interpretation of associated laws rules and policies.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Receive approve and submit Workers Compensation Claims to the ThirdParty Administrator (TPA) as well as serve as a liaison to the ThirdParty Administrators claims adjusters
Communicate with management supervisors employees the TPA and Legal Counsel including interpreting and directing the application of policies general statutes court rulings and other Workers Compensation and Salary Continuation issues
Conduct and/or assist in training
Resolve processing problems
Review various documents (such as Essential Job Functions medical information time reporting and personnel actions in the Integrated HRPayroll System)
Prepare approval/denial letters for Injury Leave and distribute to work locations
Initiate and prepare Leave without Pay letters for facilities and the TPA
Initiate and prepare Salary Continuation Eligibility letters for employees and the TPA
Prepare wage request for the TPA
Respond quickly to field staff especially in matters of policy interpretation which requires independent decision making
Other related duties may be assigned on an asneeded basis

Experience administering a highvolume complex Workers Compensation program
Demonstrated experience working with a thirdparty administrator to evaluate manage and close claims
Experience providing guidance to supervisors regarding the interpretation of federal and/or state laws
Experience ensuring that other employees comply with laws policies or established procedures

Associates degree typically in Human Resources or relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution and 1 year of experience required
